The news spread faster than Maddy had anticipated.
:
The rumors about her and Damon quickly died down, almost as if they had never existed.

But Damon’s warning still lingered in her mind: “If you can’t make Mike sign it, I’ll release the video.”
After sending her to South City, he contacted Mike directly. Soon, the older man arrived at the luxury hotel where Maddy was staying.
He looked as hungry and distracted as ever. After they finished having a rough sex, Maddy reached for the document she had prepared.
“Mike, can you sign this?” she asked softly, placing it in front of him.
Mike picked it up, frowning. “What is this, sweetheart?” he asked.
“It’s just an agreement between Daven and me,” Maddy said carefully. “You know Daven wanted me to marry
him.”
She leaned closer, lowering her voice. “It also means we don’t have to hide anymore. We can have sex… at your bedroom… while she’s asleep or she can watch us.”
Mike’s eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and hesitation crossing his face.
Maddy held her breath, hoping her words-and the calm way she had said them-would be enough to make him sign.
Maddy had successfully gotten Mike to sign the paper. Relief washed over her, though it was fleeting.
Later, the two of them continued their steamy night. When Mike finally fell asleep, Maddy quietly dressed and slipped out of the hotel. The car waited outside, engine idling softly. She sank into the seat and closed her eyes, trying to calm the storm in her chest.
In Wago City, Jasper was pacing in fury. How could Maddy deny the news he himself had spread? The thought burned, fueling his rage.
Meanwhile, Lila sat in the garden, a book in her hands, but her eyes constantly scanned the walls and the trees nearby. She knew she could climb if she had to-but the man stationed at the corner had never left his post. Every escape plan felt blocked.
Sighing, she finally walked back inside.
Outside, heavy rain battered the mansion, drenching the gardens in gray. Lila noticed Jasper packing a bag.
“Let’s go. We’re not safe here,” he said firmly.
“Where are we going? And who are we running from?” Lila asked, a hint of worry in her voice.

“The bad guys… they’re coming.” Jasper replied, his voice steady.
“Who?” she pressed.

“Tomorrow… the man will arrive,” he said. Lila thought quickly-she would have to stay here. But Jasper continued, his tone softer now, almost protective: “Don’t worry, Lila. I’ll keep you safe.”
He stepped closer, his eyes darkening with resolve. “You see… I’m a Foster too. And one day, I’ll be as powerful
as Damon.”
Before she could respond, Jasper suddenly caught her, trapping her in a firm embrace.
Her chest pressed against his, the warmth of him almost suffocating.
Then, the phone she had tucked against her chest vibrated.
Jasper’s gaze dropped to it, the tension in his posture shifting as he noticed the device.
Lila’s heart raced. She knew that call could change everything.
Jasper’s hand moved toward her chest, but Lila twisted sharply and slipped from his grasp.
“What are you hiding there?” Jasper demanded, his voice low and sharp.
Before she could answer, a deafening bang echoed from outside.
Jasper froze, then snapped his gaze toward the window. A car had exploded at the gate, the force tearing it completely apart. Sparks and debris flew as rain mixed with the chaos.
When he turned back, Lila was already gone.
“Lila!” he shouted, but she didn’t stop.
She ran toward the downstairs kitchen door. Her eyes scanned quickly, searching for any place to mislead him. There was a small service door she had noticed before. If she could make Jasper think she’d slipped inside, it would buy her precious seconds.
She slid the door open and slipped through, careful to make it sound casual. Then, moving fast, she pushed through the back exit and dove into the bushes, letting the shadows and heavy rain conceal her escape.
The storm roared around her, masking her footsteps, but she could feel her heart pounding as she tried to stay silent-and stay alive.
Jasper believed she had slipped into the service door. He smiled, satisfied, and gently closed it behind him—
unaware that Lala was already outside, hidden among the bushes.
She pressed herself low, taking slow, steadying breaths as she tried to think clearly about the best escape
route.
Gunfire erupted in the front yard, sharp and frightening. Lila froze, holding her breath, as a man appeared nearby, cautiously scanning the area.

Jasper stepped outside, speaking with calm authority.
:.
“She’s at the service door. Clear the exit,” he instructed.
“Sir… Damon is among the intruders,” the man said quietly.
“Kill him.” Jasper replied, his tone firm but measured.

Lila’s heart sank. Damon… in danger because of her. Margaret’s words came back to her: “You’re willing to sacrifice Damon’s life?”
She shivered, realizing how much was at stake. Slowly, she crawled toward the tree line, moving carefully, hoping to stay unseen.
Before she could get far, a strong hand caught her.
Jasper.
He held her firmly, dragging her back toward the mansion. Lila struggled, twisting to break free, slap her she could taste the blood and he kept a steady grip-harsh, unyielding.
“Damon! I have your wife!” Jasper called, his voice carrying just enough to get attention.
Damon froze at the sight of Lila, her face streaked with the faintest hint of blood from the earlier slap, being held firmly by Jasper.
Damon started to move forward.
“Don’t come near,” Jasper warned, his grip at Lila’s hair was firm but controlled, keeping Lila close.
Lila’s chest tightened. Fear was there, yes-but so was resolve. She had to stay calm, survive, and find a way to protect Damon without giving him away.
“Damon, sign the agreement and I will let Lila go,” Jasper said.
Damon stood frozen as he stared at Lila being dragged down by Jasper.
“I will if you give Lila back first,” Damon said.
“Damon, I’m not as stupid as you think,” Jasper shouted.
“I will be waiting,” Jasper added as he retreated while still dragging Lila on the hill.
The car was waiting behind the trees.
Lila panicked. She must not let Jasper take her. She refused to be the leverage of Jasper.
She bit Jasper’s arm hard until she tasted blood.
Jasper winced and pushed her. Lila fell hard onto the muddy path, sliding down.

Jasper ran toward her, trying to catch her. He looked like a hyena trying to hunt down its prey.
She slammed hard into a tree and felt the pain in her back.
Jasper grinned and slowly walked toward her.
Lila grabbed the small gun that she put on her thigh and pointed it at Jasper.

“Lila, can you pull the trigger?” Jasper asked, grinning and slowly walking toward her while the heavy rain kept pouring down.
“Yes,” Lila said.
Lila was trembling. This was the first time she pointed a gun at someone.
“I don’t think so,” Jasper said, getting closer and closer to Lila.
Then a hand held the gun, making Lila’s trembling die down. The warmth that haunted her these past days.
Jasper froze when he saw Damon behind Lila, his hand covering Lila’s hand that held the gun.
Before he could say anything, Damon pulled the trigger.
