The sound of the gunshot echoed through the hill, louder than the pouring rain.

Jasper’s grin disappeared instantly. His body jerked as the bullet hit him. He staggered back, clutching his chest as the rain quickly soaked his shirt.

Lila gasped, the gun slipping slightly in her trembling hand.

Jasper looked at Damon, shock spreading across his face as if he couldn’t believe what had just happened.

“You…” Jasper muttered weakly.

His knees buckled, and he fell onto the muddy ground.

For a moment, there was only the sound of heavy rain and Lila’s uneven breathing.

Damon slowly lowered the gun, his hand still covering Lila’s. His grip was firm but gentle.

“Are you hurt?” Damon asked quietly.

Lila shook her head, though her body was still shaking.

“I thought… I thought he would take me,” she whispered.

“He won’t,” Damon said.

Behind them, Jasper lay motionless on the ground as the rain continued to fall, washing the blood into the mud.

Damon carefully took the gun from Lila’s hand and pulled her into his arms.

“You’re safe now,” he murmured.

Lila closed her eyes, finally allowing herself to breathe. The warmth she felt behind her was real this time, not just a memory that haunted her.

And for the first time since Jasper appeared, the fear slowly began to fade.

Lila stayed in Damon’s arms, her body still shaking from everything that had just happened. The rain continued to pour heavily around them, soaking their clothes and turning the ground beneath their feet into

thick mud.

“Damon…” Lila whispered weakly.

“I’m here,” Damon replied softly.

He gently pulled back to look at her face. Wet strands of hair clung to her cheeks, and her eyes were still filled

with fear.

“You’re safe now,” he said again, his voice firm this time.

Lila nodded slowly, though her hands were still trembling.

Behind them. Jasper groaned.

Both of them froze.

Jasper shifted slightly on the muddy ground, coughing as he tried to push himself up.

Damon’s expression hardened instantly.

“Stay behind me,” he told Lila quietly.

Lila stepped back as Damon moved in front of her.

Jasper laughed weakly, blood mixing with the rain on his lips.

“You really shot me,” he said hoarsely.

“She told told you she can pull the trigger right?,” Damon replied coldly.

Jasper looked between Damon and Lila, a twisted smile forming on his face despite the pain.

“You think this is over?” he muttered.

Damon raised the gun again, his eyes dark.

“It is,” he said firmly.

For a long moment, no one moved. The rain kept falling, the wind rustling the trees around them.

Then, in the distance, the sound of sirens began to echo through the hills.

Jasper’s smile slowly faded.

Damon didn’t lower the gun.

“It’s over, Jasper,” Damon said quietly.

The sirens grew louder, echoing through the hills and cutting through the sound of the rain.

Jasper lay on the muddy ground, breathing heavily. His eyes flickered between Damon and Lila.

“You called them?” Jasper asked weakly.

Damon didn’t answer. His grip on the gun remained steady.

Lila stood behind him, holding onto the back of his jacket. Her fingers were still shaking.

Jasper gave a weak laugh that turned into a cough.

“You think this will save you?” he muttered.

:

“This isn’t about saving me.” Damon replied coldly. “It’s about stopping you.”

The flashing lights of approaching cars began to appear between the trees.

Jasper looked toward them, his expression slowly changing.

Before the police could reach the hill, Damon and Lila had already disappeared into the rain and trees.

Behind them, Jasper’s men rushed from the shadows, quickly dragging him away. Blood stained the muddy ground where he had fallen.

By the time the police arrived, the hill was empty.

Only the heavy rain remained, slowly washing the blood into the mud.

Lila’s eyes scanned Damon’s face, tracing the dark bruises that marked where he had fought for her.

“Are you okay?” she whispered, her voice trembling, tears streaking down her cheeks.

Damon reached out and gently brushed them away with the back of his hand, his touch warm against her cold skin.

“You owe me now,” he murmured, a faint, tired smile playing on his lips. He leaned in slowly, pressing his lips to hers in a soft, lingering kiss that spoke more than words ever could.

The storm of adrenaline and fear caught up with him, and the world went black.

When Damon opened his eyes, sunlight filtered softly through the hospital blinds. He blinked, adjusting to the calm, sterile quiet.

Lila was there, kneeling beside the bed, her hands wrapped gently around his. Her fingers slipped nervously along the edge of the sheets, and her eyes-filled with relief, worry, and something tender-never left his face.

Damon shifted slightly, feeling her warmth seep into him. She leaned closer, her forehead resting against his arm, and whispered, “Don’t scare me like that again.”

He reached up, cupping her cheek with one hand, his thumb brushing over her trembling lips.

“I won’t,” he said softly, the edges of his voice rough but certain.

For the first time in days, the room felt safe. The chaos of the hill, the rain, and Jasper’s threat was gone.

It was just them-broken, bruised, and alive.

And for a moment, nothing else mattered but the warmth of her hand in his.

Damon gently lifted Lila into the hospital bed, their bodies pressed close. He kissed her passionately, and Lila straddled him, feeling the warmth of him beneath her.

“Damon! You’re still shameless! You just woke up, and that’s the first thing you think of?” Lila said, looking down at him with a mixture of shock and amusement.

“It’s been a long time since I held you like this… just this once,” Damon murmured, his hands gripping her waist, pulling her closer.

At that moment, the door creaked open. Simon stepped inside and froze, eyes widening at the sight of them tangled together on the bed.

“Oops… my bad,” Simon said quickly, stepping back and averting his gaze.

Lila smacked Damon lightly on the chest and slid off the bed, glaring at him.

Damon chuckled softly. “I like it better when you glare at me like that,” he said with a teasing smile.

Lila crossed her arms, still scowling, but a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

Lila walked to the door and opened it. Outside, Simon was standing, grinning.

He stepped inside, glancing at Damon, who was staring daggers at him for interrupting him while he was… well, seducing his wife.

Simon just shook his head and began his report.

“I should step outside,” Lila said quickly.

“Stay,” Damon told her firmly.

Lila hesitated, then stayed, leaning against the doorframe and listening as Simon continued.

“It’s confirmed,” Simon said seriously. “Jasper is still alive. Richard has already started dismantling Jasper’s base in Wago City.”

“Richard’s already there, taking charge and building his base in the Wago City,” Simon added.

Damon’s eyes narrowed as he processed the news. Then, a sly smile appeared on his face as he glanced at Lila standing quietly in the corner.

“Too excited about his new territory, huh?” he teased, his tone playful but loaded with intent.

Lila rolled her eyes, trying to hide the faint smile that threatened to break through.

“Be careful, Damon,” Simon said.

“Mike was enraged when he learned about the document Maddy asked him to sign,” Simon added.

“Well, it’s all thanks to my lovely wife that I get to show them what I’m capable of when they try to cross me.” Damon said, a proud glint in his eyes.

Lila felt a pang of guilt. This wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t been reckless.

“Also.” Damon continued, “tell Jade my wife will withdraw the divorce.”

“Okay.” Simon replied, nodding, and left.

“Come here.” Damon said to Lila.

Lila frowned. “I’m not a dog,” she said, staying on the couch.

Damon smirked and slid off the bed. He walked to the door first and locked it.

“Where are you going?” Lila asked.

Damon didn’t answer. Instead, he pulled her toward him and made her sit on his lap.

“Master,” he teased, his voice low and playful, “this dog of yours can’t hold it anymore. I’m begging for your mercy.”

He held her close, just enough that she could feel the warmth of him pressing against her. Lila felt a shiver run through her, caught between exasperation, embarrassment, and the undeniable pull she felt toward him.

“Okay… okay, I’ll help you-just… we have to do it in the bathroom,” Lila said shyly, her face burning hot.

Damon’s grin widened. “Lead the way,” he said, and they moved toward the bathroom. Damon unlocked the door, and they stepped inside.

While Lila busied herself kneeling helping Damon, a shadow moved silently outside the room. A figure entered quietly, scanning the space with sharp, calculating eyes.

Nothing. He didn’t see the man he had been hunting.

“Tsk… truly lucky,” the man muttered under his breath, a smirk tugging at his lips. He paused, thinking. Where could he possibly be this time? He knew he couldn’t linger in this room-waiting here would ruin his focus, his mood.

With a low growl of frustration, he turned and slipped back into the shadows.

The bathroom door remained closed, hiding Damon and Lila from prying eyes, the sound of the rain outside muffled by the walls, while tension-and desire-lingered thickly in the air.
