Damon slowly released The Fox’s arm, letting the man slump against the crates. He didn’t move, eyes wary, realizing he had underestimated them.
Lila stepped closer, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Are you sure he’s done?” she asked quietly, her voice carrying both concern and relief.
Damon gave a small nod, still pressing lightly at his side where the bandage had loosened. “For now. But he won’t forget this. And neither will anyone working with him.”
She sighed, letting herself relax just a fraction. “You need to rest. You’re hurt more than you admit.”
“I’m fine,” Damon said, though the slight wince betrayed him. “I’ve been through worse. But thank you… for being here.”
Her chest warmed at the words. “Always,” she said softly, reaching out to steady him.
He glanced at her, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “You know… only death could separate us. Unfortunately, death can’t catch me. But I’ll make sure it never catches you either.”
Lila’s pulse quickened, but she pressed a hand to his cheek. “Just… promise me you’ll slow down at some point.”
Damon leaned into her touch, the tension of the fight and his injuries softening in her presence. “I promise.”
Together, they stepped away from the crates, heading toward the car. The rain had slowed to a mist, the city lights reflecting softly off the wet asphalt.
Even in the quiet after the storm, the sense of danger lingered. The Fox would recover. Others might come. But for this moment, Damon and Lila were safe.
And that was enough.
The warehouse was finally secure. The Fox was down, and Damon’s men were cleaning up the scene, erasing any trace of what had just happened.
Damon leaned against the car, wincing as he pressed at his bruised ribs. Lila slid into the passenger seat, still trembling from adrenaline.
“Think he’s really done?” she asked softly.
“For now,” Damon said, his voice rough. “But don’t relax yet.”
Their driver started the engine, and the car moved slowly through the wet, empty streets. Then, headlights appeared in the rearview mirror-someone was following them.
“Damon…” Lila’s voice trembled.
“Hold on!” he shouted. He swerved sharply, trying to lose the tail, but the other vehicle stayed on them,

Metal screeched as the tailing car rammed theirs from behind. The vehicle spun violently, hitting the guardrail, flipping, and skidding to a stop.
Darkness swallowed them.
Lila woke up in a hospital bed, the steady beeping of machines filling the quiet room. Beside her sat Mark, her younger brother, who had barely left her side for the past month.
“You’re awake… Lila?” Mark asked carefully, leaning closer. “Are you okay?”
Lila blinked slowly, her eyes wandering around the unfamiliar room. Confusion clouded her face.
“I… where am I?” she whispered.
Mark’s heart skipped. Something in her voice felt wrong.
“I’ll call the doctor. Just wait here,” Mark said quickly. He pressed the emergency button beside the bed.
Within seconds, the doctor rushed into the room, followed by a nurse. They began asking Lila questions-her name, the date, who she remembered.
It was then that the terrible truth became clear.
Lila had amnesia.
Mark felt his chest tighten when she looked straight at him with empty, unfamiliar eyes.
“I’m sorry,” she said softly. “Do I… know you?”
The words struck him harder than anything else.
Before he could gather his thoughts, another figure rushed into the room. Margaret had come the moment she heard Lila had finally woken up after a month-long coma.
But the relief she felt vanished the moment she learned the truth.
“Amnesia?” Margaret repeated, devastated.
Mark stood silently for a moment, his expression hardening as he made a decision.
This time… he would be the one to protect his sister.
Later, Mark met Margaret privately.
“I’m taking Lila back to South City,” he said firmly.
Margaret looked at him in surprise.
“With her memory gone, it’s better if she doesn’t learn anything about Damon,” Mark continued. “She wanted

to divorce him anyway. And all this chaos started because Lila blindly trusted Jasper.”
He paused, his voice colder now.
“Consider this payment for my sister’s foolishness. It’s also better for both of our families.”
Without waiting for a reply, Mark turned and left.

He began preparing the necessary papers to transfer his sister out of the hospital-and away from the life she no longer remembered.
While Mark was preparing the documents, Maddy slipped quietly into Lila’s room.
“I can’t believe you’re still alive,” Maddy said coldly before slapping Lila across the face. “You should be the one still in a coma,” she added bitterly.
Lila was shocked and too confused to react.
“What? Have you become mute?” Maddy mocked. She raised her hand, about to slap Lila again, when the door suddenly opened.
Ina rushed in and shoved Maddy aside.
“You psycho!” Ina shouted.
“Lila, are you okay?” Ina asked as she rushed to her side. She immediately noticed the red mark on Lila’s cheek from the slap.
Anger flashed across Ina’s face. In frustration, she grabbed a nearby chair and threw it toward Maddy.
Maddy didn’t have time to move away and was struck, crying out as she fell back.
At that moment, Mark arrived at the door and froze, stunned by what he was witnessing.
“Ina!” Mark called out as he quickly stepped forward and helped Maddy stand up.
“That psycho bitch just hurt Lila!” Ina shouted angrily as she wrapped her arms protectively around Lila.
Lila sat there quietly, still shaken and confused by everything happening around her.
Mark grabbed Maddy firmly by the arm and guided her toward the door.
“Go. Get lost. Don’t ever show your face in front of Lila again,” he said firmly, his voice cold and controlled.
Maddy stumbled back, fuming, but stopped outside the room.
“Your sister deserved to be slapped! Damon wouldn’t have been in danger if she hadn’t acted foolishly! He should never have married her! She should’ve died on that accident” Maddy shouted, her voice shaking with
anger.
Mark turned slowly, his eyes piercing.

Maddy glared at him for a moment, but the determination in his voice made her falter. She stormed off without another word, leaving Mark standing in the hallway, steadying himself.
