Mark closed the door behind Maddy, his hand lingering on the handle for a moment as he collected himself. Then he turned back to Lila.

“Are you okay?” he asked softly, stepping closer. His voice had lost some of its anger, replaced with concern.

Lila touched her cheek instinctively, still feeling the sting of the slap. Her eyes were wide, confused.

“I… I don’t know,” she whispered. “What… what just happened?”

Ina stepped forward, still tense but calmer now that Maddy was gone. She placed a comforting hand on Lila’s shoulder.

“She’s gone now,” Ina said. “You’re safe, Lila. No one is going to hurt you again.”

Mark nodded, his jaw tight. “That’s right. From now on, I’m the one in charge of protecting you. No one-no one-is allowed to interfere with your life.”

Lila looked up at him, a mix of fear and relief in her eyes. She couldn’t remember much, not even the people around her, but she could feel the sincerity in Mark’s words.

“Thank you,” she whispered softly, almost to herself.

Mark let out a slow breath, his shoulders relaxing slightly. “We’ll get through this,” he said. “Step by step. And I promise… I won’t let anyone put you in danger again.”

Ina squeezed Lila’s hand gently. “You’re not alone. Not anymore.”

For the first time since waking, Lila allowed herself to lean slightly into the comfort of those around her, though the haze of confusion from her memory loss still lingered. Outside the room, the world was chaotic- but inside, for the moment, she was safe.

Ina stayed close to Lila, helping her settle into the bed and making sure she was comfortable. Lila’s hand rested lightly in Ina’s, her eyes still clouded with confusion, but slowly gaining trust in the people around her.

Mark paused from the paperwork and looked at them through the doorway. “We’re leaving tomorrow morning,” he said. His voice was calm but firm. “No distractions. No surprises. Just a safe journey for Lila.”

Lila blinked, uncertain. “I… I don’t understand… why are we leaving?”

Mark stepped inside, kneeling slightly so he could meet her gaze. “Because it’s the safest place for you right now. You don’t need to remember everything yet. What matters is that you heal, that you’re safe, and that no one can hurt you again.”

Lila hesitated, then nodded slowly. She didn’t fully understand why, but something in Mark’s presence made her feel that she could trust him.

Ina smiled softly. “You won’t be alone. We’ll both be there. You’re going to be okay.”

Mark returned to his paperwork, carefully double-checking every line. “Once we get to South City, things will change. You’ll start fresh. No past conflicts. No dangerous people around. Just time to recover.”

Outside the room, the hospital was quiet. The storm of the day’s events was over, but the tension lingered in the air. Mark, Ina, and Lila all knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be simple-but for the first time in a long while, it felt like they had a chance.

Mark looked down at the documents again, his hand steady. “Tomorrow,” he said quietly. “Tomorrow, everything starts over.”

And for Lila, with her memories lost but her future unwritten, that was enough.

The next morning, the hospital corridors were quiet, almost eerily so. Mark, carrying the last of the paperwork, led the way to the car. Ina walked beside Lila, keeping a gentle hand on her back as she helped her into the passenger seat.

Lila glanced around nervously, the unfamiliar surroundings making her uneasy. “Where… where are we going?” she asked quietly, her voice small.

“South City,” Mark said firmly, taking the driver’s seat. “It’s safer there. You won’t have to deal with any of the chaos you’ve been through here.”

Lila hesitated, unsure if she trusted him completely. She didn’t remember him fully, didn’t remember the danger she had faced-but something in his eyes told her she could.

“Don’t worry,” Ina said softly. “We’ll be with you the whole way. You’re not alone.”

Mark started the car, the engine hum filling the silence. The streets outside were just beginning to wake up, and for a moment, the world felt peaceful. But Mark knew that the threats lurking behind Lila’s past weren’t gone-they were just waiting, watching.

“Mark,” Lila whispered after a few minutes, “what if… what if I don’t remember anything?”

Mark’s jaw tightened, and he glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “Then we start from scratch. You’ll learn, slowly. And I’ll make sure nothing bad touches you while you do.”

The drive was long, filled with quiet tension. Lila stared out the window, trying to make sense of the city passing by, while Ina kept her company, chatting softly to distract her from her fear.

Mark’s mind, however, was far from relaxed. He kept scanning the road ahead, thinking of anyone who might try to interfere-Maddy, Jasper, Damon, or anyone else connected to Lila’s past. He had made it clear: this time, he was the one protecting her. And he wouldn’t fail.

As the city skyline faded behind them and the highway stretched toward South City, Lila slowly relaxed in her seat, the first real sense of safety she had felt since waking. It was temporary, she didn’t know it yet-but it was

a start.

Mark tightened his grip on the steering wheel, silently vowing: no one would ever put his sister in danger again.

And as the miles passed beneath them, the trio moved toward a future that, though uncertain, held the first promise of peace Lila had known in a long time.

By late afternoon, the skyline of South City appeared in the distance, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. The city felt alive, busy, and unfamiliar-a stark contrast to the quiet, tense halls of the hospital they had left behind.

Mark drove them down a quiet country road just outside the city, where green fields stretched out on either side. Soon, a small villa appeared ahead, surrounded by a modest farm with neat rows of vegetables and a few

fruit trees.

“This is it,” Mark said, stepping out of the car first. “Your new home.”

Lila stared at the villa, her eyes wide. It was peaceful, private, and unlike anything she had known. For the first time since waking, she felt a glimmer of calm.

Ina opened Lila’s door and gently guided her out. “Come on, Lila. Let’s take a look inside.”

The villa was small but comfortable, with sunlit rooms and a simple, homey charm. Outside, the little farm added life and tranquility-a place where Lila could breathe and begin anew.

Mark handed her a small set of keys. “This is yours. No one will disturb you here. I’ll make sure of that.”

Lila looked up at him, searching his face. “Thank you… for everything,” she whispered, her voice soft, tinged with vulnerability.

Mark nodded firmly. “You don’t need to thank me. I’m your brother. Protecting you is my responsibility. And I won’t let anyone put you in danger again-not ever.”

Ina placed a comforting hand on Lila’s shoulder. “You’re safe now. And we’ll help you adjust, step by step.”

For the first time since waking, Lila felt a small weight lift from her chest. She didn’t remember all of her past, didn’t understand the events that had brought her here–but in this peaceful villa with its little farm, she could feel hope returning.

Mark watched her quietly, already thinking of the next steps: securing her life, keeping her away from danger, and helping her slowly rebuild trust and confidence.

The farm outside swayed gently in the evening breeze, the soft rustle of leaves and distant birdsong marking a new beginning. For Mark, Lila, and Ina, it was a chance to reclaim control, to protect what mattered, and to face the future on their own terms.

And for Lila, in the quiet safety of this small villa, hope felt real for the first time in a long time.
