The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 105

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE EVA’S POV

When I strutted out of the hospital, away from Lucian, Nathaniel Vale and that wench Margot, I didn’t look

back.

But I heard them-voices, footsteps, the low hum of tension that always followed scenes like that.

No matter how tempting it was, I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction of turning around. My heels struck the polished floor in steady, measured steps, as my hips swayed lightly from left to right.

If I stopped, I would think about it.

And I didn’t want to think about it.

Not yet.

The noise hit me immediately the doors slid open.

Cameras, voices, flashes.

Questions were thrown all at once, sharp and invasive.

“Miss Sterling! How do you feel about what happened tonight?”

“Is Mr. Dhark still planning to go through with the engagement?”

“Do you think his actions toward his ex-wife were appropriate?”

“How do you feel about Mr. Dhark risking his life for his ex-wife?”

“Are you concerned about his feelings for Claire?”

That one.

That was the one that lingered- the one that triggered me.

I paused just long enough for the cameras to catch me properly, just long enough to lift my chin and arrange my expression into something composed. Concerned, but not shaken. Graceful, but not weak.

“Tonight was unfortunate,” I said smoothly. “My focus is on everyone’s safety. I’m sure the situation will be clarified soon.”

I didn’t wait for another question.

I moved past them, ignoring the continued calls of my name, the flashes that followed me all the way to

the car.

The door shut behind me with a soft, final sound.

Silence.

For a moment, I just sat there.

Then I exhaled.

Slowly.

Carefully.

My jaw tightened as the last few minutes replayed in my mind.

Margot’s voice.

Her audacity.

The way she looked at me like she knew something.

And Lucian-

Telling me to leave.

In front of them.

In front of her.

My fingers curled slightly against my lap.

He could argue with me. He could disagree. He could even refuse me in private if he wanted to be

difficult.

But humiliating me?

That was something I would never tolerate.

My gaze dropped briefly to my hand, to the ring that had been so carefully chosen, so deliberately displayed.

All that effort.

All that planning.

And what was trending now?

Not the engagement. Not the future I had begun to build.

No-It was him. Him and Claire.

Him carrying her.

Him risking himself for her.

The narrative had shifted so easily it was almost insulting.

I leaned back against the seat, closing my eyes for a second.

Margot should have been in that hospital bed.

And Claire…

I opened my eyes again, staring ahead.

I wasn’t done with either of them.

The mansion was quieter than usual when I returned.

Controlled.

Tense.

I noticed it, of course. I always noticed things like that.

But I didn’t stop to question it.

Not tonight.

I went straight upstairs, past staff who lowered their gazes just a little too quickly, past the lingering stillness that hadn’t quite settled yet.

My room felt untouched.

Untouched by the chaos.

Untouched by the humiliation.

I stepped inside, closed the door behind me, and finally let the tension slip from my shoulders just slightly.

The tension, the humiliation, the burn of rage… it wasn’t gone. But it was contained.

I slipped off my heels first, placing them neatly aside. Then my diamond earrings, and the bracelet. I stared at the ring for a moment too long before I slid it off and set it down carefully on the table.

I had gone through a lot of trouble getting that ring. And yes, it was acquired with Lucian’s money, had gone through a lot of trouble to get that as well.

but I

Everything was deliberate. Controlled. I wouldn’t let anyone ruin it for me- not Claire, not Margot, not even Lucian himself.

I settled on the bed, for a while, I did nothing.

Just exhaled-slow and steady. Then I straightened.

This didn’t change anything.

One failed moment didn’t undo everything I had built.

The goal was still within reach. The travel plans were still in place- six months away, gi be precise.

Six months of distance, of control, of shaping things exactly the way they needed to be shaped.

The timeline still worked.

Lucian was stubborn now. Difficult and distracted by Claire.

But that wasn’t new.

Men like him always resisted before they yielded.

And in the end-

They always came back.

I didn’t come this far just to lose him.

Not after everything. Not after the effort it took me to place myself back in his life, to rebuild what had been lost, to secure what should have always been mine.

And certainly not to lose him to someone like Claire Moreau, as boring and naive as she was.

I let out a quiet breath, my lips curving faintly, a little bit amused.

Claire had him once and she did nothing with it.
