CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE LUCUAN’S POV
The moment I stepped into Sinclair & Co., the shift was immediate.
It always was.
I noticed Conversations dip just slightly. Heads turned-not openly, but enough. Recognition moved through the space- immediate, but subtle.
I was a familiar face.
And after the last couple of months-after the legal battle between Claire and I, the media coverage- there was no walking into a place like this unnoticed.
But I didn’t acknowledge it.Didn’t slow down to give it anything.
My focus stayed fixed ahead as I moved through the corridor, past glass walls and muted voices, straight toward the one office that mattered-
Claire’s.
The lady at the reception had informed me that she now had one of her own. Impressive.
I should have come sooner.
The thought sat in my chest like a sharp ache; unwelcome, but precise.
I ignored it.
I reached the door soon enough.
Then I opened it-
And stopped.
Claire.
Nathaniel.
Close.
Too close.
The space between them wasn’t distance.
No, it was contact.
Intentional and unmistakable.
I didn’t move. Didn’t speak. I couldn’t.
All I could do in that moment was watch.

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY NINE TUCUAN’S POV
It took less than a spiky second to understand what I was looking at.
What it meant… What it confirmed.
Something settled in my chest-not loud, not explosive.
Just… cold.
So this was where she chose to stand. This is who she chose.
They pulled apart the moment they noticed another presence in the room with them.
Claire turned first.
Then Nathaniel.
But for a long moment, neither of them spoke.
I stepped in- fully, this time. Then I closed the door behind me quietly.
I didn’t raise my voice. No, I wouldn’t react.
Nathaniel would enjoy that very much.
“Am I interrupting something?”
The question was neutral. Measured, even.
But it didn’t soften anything.
Silence followed, thick and awkward.
My gaze stayed on Claire.
Not him.
Her.
Because that was where this began.
And where it ended.
Nathaniel didn’t step back or even look away.
I registered it-and dismissed it just as quickly.
It was Irrelevant. He was irrelevant.
“I came to talk,” I said, looking right into Claire’s eyes. “Clearly, I misjudged the timing.”
Claire held my gaze. She appeared composed. Too composed.
But it didn’t change anything. Instead, it just confirmed it.

It confirmed their … involvement.
Nathaniel shifted slightly, like he might speak.
I didn’t look at him.
“This doesn’t concern you.”
The words weren’t aggressive.
Just… final.
He didn’t respond.
Good.
Because this wasn’t about him.
Not really.
Silence settled again.
Long enough.
Heavy enough.
Then I stepped back.
Not retreating.
Just ending it.
“For now.”
My hand rested briefly on the door.
I looked at Claire one last time.
Held it.
Just long enough.
“When you’re done here… I’ll be waiting.”
I didn’t wait for a response.
Didn’t look back.
I walked out.
The corridor felt quieter than before.

Or maybe I just stopped noticing everything else.
Either way, it didn’t matter.
I moved through the building the same way I had entered-controlled, direct, untouched by the attention that still lingered in the air.
Outside, the air felt sharper.
Cleaner.
I reached the car, opened the door-
My phone rang.
Camilla.
I answered immediately.
“Yes.”
