The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 132

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO MARGOT’S POV

“It’s Eva’s.”

For a moment, I didn’t move. I didn’t even blink.

Of course it is.

Goodness, how come I hadn’t seen this coming?

But honestly, I wasn’t exactly surprised. This didn’t just feel like a revelation-it felt like a final piece clicking into place exactly where it had always been meant to go.

I leaned back slightly, my gaze steady on the man in front of me.

“When was it done?” I questioned.

Dr. Ramon hesitated, before finally resigning with a slight shake of his head.

“Years ago,” he said.

“Who authorized it?” I pressed further.

Another pause. 1

“Eva did.”

“Where is the original record?”

“It’s archived in the system,” he replied. “Restricted access.”

Good.

I stayed still in my seat for a moment, allowing myself to think of all the different variables.

“What exactly was the diagnosis?” I had read Claire’s report, but I had to be very cautious when dealing with a corrupt doctor.

Everything had to make sense.

Dr. Ramon exhaled slowly, like the weight of it was catching up to him now.

“Uterine scarring,” he stated. “Severe. The result of a prior procedure.”

My expression didn’t change, but I say up straighter.

“What kind of procedure?”

This time, he didn’t hesitate.

“An abortion. Unregulated and poorly performed.” Dr. Ramon stated.

I held his gaze.

“She can’t have children because of it,” he added finally.

I absorbed that without comment, filing it where it belonged-relevant, but not central to my investigation.

“Why,” I asked calmly, “would someone like Eva, who has access to so much resources choose something like that?”

Dr. Ramon sighed, like he was being made to explain something so obvious.

“That was before I met her,” he narrated. “She wasn’t who she is now. She was just starting out. A pregnancy-especially outside marriage-would have ended her career overnight.”

He paused briefly. “And an abortion? Even worse.”

Of course.

Image.

Reputation.

Career.

“She couldn’t risk a hospital,” he continued. “Too many people, too many records. Too many chances for something to leak.”

I said nothing, because I understood exactly what that meant.

Sure, Eva Sterling hadn’t always been powerful.

But she had always been calculating.

“And Claire?” I asked.

That was where his composure shifted again.

I watched him adjust slightly in his seat.

“You were involved in her case as well,” I said. It wasn’t a question.

A beat passed before he answered.

“Yes.”

“Explain it to me.”

His jaw tightened by a fraction before he answered.

“She wasn’t supposed to be… involved.”

I didn’t interrupt.

“Mr. Dhark requested a session,” he continued. “A standard evaluation.”

“So how did Eva come in?” I prompted.

“Lucian had his assistant schedule the appointment,” he admitted. “An assistant whom he didn’t know was a friend of Eva’s. It looked legitimate..”

I almost scoffed. Of course it did.

Everything Eva did looked legitimate.

“She contacted me even before the couple arrived,” he added. “Privately, of course.”

“And?”

He looked at me then, like he already knew there was no point holding anything back.

“She wanted Mrs. Dhark’s results altered.” It felt like the room went completely still.

I had heard much more sinister things in my career, but this… this made a shiver run down my spine.

“To match hers,” he finished.

I shook my head slowly. That was the only reaction I allowed myself to give.

Because the damage of that statement had already been done.

Nothing is actually wrong with Claire.

The truth was right in front of me now, clear and undeniable.

I leaned forward slightly, my tone shifting into something colder-matching what I had just felt.

“This is medical fraud.” I stated factually.

He didn’t respond.

I continued. “This is defamation.”

Silence.

“This is intentional harm.”

From the way Dr. Ramon’s gaze dropped briefly to the file, I assumed my voice must have reflected judgement and disgust.

Nothing was more irritating to me, than an unethical professional.

“You didn’t just falsify a report,” I continued evenly. “You constructed a narrative.”

One that had humiliated an innocent woman. Publicly, and deliberately.

Dr. Ramon exhaled, slower this time.

“You can’t prove Eva instructed it,” he said confidently. “There’s no direct link.”

AND THIRTY TWO MARGUES POV

I didn’t try to argue or counter his statement.

“I don’t need to prove everything,” I said calmly. “I just need to prove enough.”

That landed.

I watched it settle into him slowly, before I added, just as measured-

“You give me what I need, and your name doesn’t appear anywhere near this case.”

His eyes lifted to mine.

“You’re asking me to trust you.”

“I’m offering you a way out,” I corrected.

And a second later, I added, “I suggest you take it.”

The silence stretched again, tighter this time.

Then he reached for his system, logged in and pulled something up.

A few clicks, and a file appeared.

He didn’t print or email it.

Instead, he transferred it directly to the device I slid across the desk.

I glanced at the screen briefly.

Eva Sterling.

Full report.

Original and unaltered.

Good. That was enough.

I rose from my seat, without any unnecessary words.

“Doctor.”

He looked up.

“You’ll hear from my office.”

It wasn’t a threat.

It was a certainty.

I turned and walked out without waiting for a response.
