The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 205

CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIVE LUCIAN’S POV

I was already awake when my phone rang.

That wasn’t unusual anymore.

Dhark Holdings occupied most of my waking hours. The lawsuit occupied the rest.

I was sitting alone in my office, halfway through my second cup of coffee, reviewing projected stock movement reports, with the board’s deadline heavy on my mind, when Tessa’s name flashed across my screen.

Something in my stomach tightened immediately.

I answered before the second ring. “Tell me.”

“Police tracked Dr. Ramon’s GPS signal.”

Every muscle in my body went still.

“What?”

“They’ve found him.”

My grip tightened around the phone.

Tessa continued. “The phone came online again around forty minutes ago. They’ve got a probable location.”

I was already standing. “Where?”

“A bus terminal.” Tessa paused. “Several cities away.”

I was grabbing my keys before she ever finished speaking.

“He was moving.” She added.

My jaw clenched.

Of course he was. Dr. Ramon hadn’t disappeared. Obviously, he’d been running.

Trying to stay ahead of the investigation and the subsequent lawsuit.

Trying to stay ahead of the consequences of what he’d done.

Not anymore.

Today, it ends.

“Police are moving in now,” Tessa said.

“I’m going.”

She sighed. “Sir-”

“I’m going.” I repeated, then ended the call because there was nothing else to discuss.

It wasn’t even negotiable.

If Ramon disappeared now, the lawsuit would weaken. The evidence would weaken.

And that means Eva would gain room to breathe.

I wasn’t willing to let that happen.

Not after everything she’d done to Claire. Not after she’d landed Margot Sinclair in a coma. Not after my company had nearly been torn apart.

Not now.

The drive felt endless.

Every red light felt like an insult. Every slow-moving vehicle felt a personal obstacle.

I wasn’t exactly officially involved in the police operation.

Nobody had invited me or even requested my presence.

But I went anyway, and no one dared stop me.

They all understood what Ramon represented;

Evidence.

Answers.

Truth.

And I needed to see him in person.

I needed to look at the man who had helped destroy my marriage.

The man who had looked Claire and I in the eye almost a year ago and told us we would never have children together.

The man who had helped Eva build an entire lie.

Perhaps I wouldn’t even recognize him anymore- but I needed to be there when he got caught.

In fact, I needed to apprehend the corrupt doctor myself.

By the time I arrived at the terminal, police vehicles were already positioned discreetly around the area.

The officers wore plainclothes, drove unmarked cars and moved in a controlled but mundane manner.

Professional. Very good.

One of the detectives recognized me immediately.

His expression suggested he wasn’t thrilled to see me.

Fortunately, he didn’t stop me.

“He’s inside.”

My pulse accelerated.

“Where?”

The detective pointed toward the waiting area. “We’ve got eyes on him.”

I followed his gaze. And there he was.

Dr. Ramon. Bad posture, greying hair and large sunglasses, even though the sun wasn’t even fully out yet

He sat alone, a lone suitcase at his feet.

His shoulders were hunched as he stared at nothing.

For a moment, I almost didn’t recognize him.

He looked older. Smaller.

Broken, not dangerous.

Not powerful or clever like a criminal mastermind. Just exhausted, like a man whose life had collapsed.

Several officers began moving carefully into position.

They were methodical.

One approached from the left, another from behind.

A third from the entrance, and that’s when Ramon looked up.

When he saw them, he immediately knew.

His entire body stiffened.

Then his eyes found me from across the terminal.

For one brief second, we stared at each other.

Recognition flashed across his face.

Then fear followed. Real fear.

Good.

Because he knew exactly why I was there.

Because he knew I knew everything now.

Because he knew this was the end for him.

In an instant, Ramon bolted.

The suitcase tipped over behind him.

People shouted.

Police moved instantly.

The chase wasn’t dramatic or cinematic.

It was desperate.

Ramon sprinted through the terminal like a man running from his own mistakes.

Which, in a way, he was.

He nearly made it to one of the exits before two officers tackled him to the ground.

The struggle lasted less than ten seconds before it was finally over.

He was handcuffed and arrested quickly.

It was done.

I stood there watching, feeling nothing.

Not satisfaction, not victory.

Nothing.

Because none of this fixed what he’d done.

Nothing ever could.

Several hours later, I was sitting inside a police station, waiting.

Detectives moved in and out of offices, phones rang constantly.

Conversations echoed loudly through hallways.

Ramon was being processed and examined.

And apparently, searched thoroughly too.

After some time, one detective emerged carrying a sealed evidence bag.

Inside was a flash drive.

Another bag contained several burner phones, cash and travel documents.

Evidence of a man preparing to disappear permanently.

News of Ramon’s arrest spread quickly- much faster than I expected.

Margot was informed. Sinclair & Co was informed.

And now everyone was making and receiving calls.

I remained where I was, waiting. Watching.

Mostly thinking about Claire.

Because sooner or later she would walk through those doors.

And sure enough, she did.

I noticed her immediately she entered the station.

She wore a dark suit, walking with purpose.

Professional, focused but tired underneath it all.

When her eyes found mine, something inside my chest eased slightly.

Relief.

Just relief. Nothing more dangerous than that.

Claire crossed the room and stopped right in front of me.

“He’s here?”

I nodded. “He’s here.”

She heaved a sigh of relief.

Not happiness, not satisfaction Just relief.

Because Hart Sullivan was still roaming.

Because Eva was still dangerous.

Because everything still felt unstable.

But at least we had one thing— we had found Dr. Ramon.

At least one piece of the puzzle had finally stopped running.

“He asked for a lawyer?” she asked.

I nodded. “Of course he did.”

Claire didn’t look surprised, and honestly neither was I.

Of course he wanted legal representation.

He’d spent months helping commit fraud, so he knew exactly how serious this was.

Before either of us could say anything else, a detective approached.

“Miss Moreau?”

Claire turned.

“Yes?”

The detective hesitated for a moment, then glanced toward the interrogation rooms.

“There’s something you should know.”
