The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 300

Neither Camilla nor I noticed when the kitchen door opened.

We were still standing there, wrapped in each other’s arms, both of us crying like we’d just survived the world’s saddest movie.

Until I heard a familiar voice—

“Should I be concerned?”

I froze.

Camilla froze too.

We pulled apart very slowly.

Lucian stood in the doorway.

His tie was slightly loosened, and his suit jacket was hanging open. His facial expression was somewhere between confused and amused.

His dark eyes moved from Camilla to me, then back to Camilla.

“Why are you both crying?”

Neither of us answered.

His brows pulled together.

“Claire?”

I wiped my cheeks.

“Nothing.”

“Nothing?”

Camilla sniffed.

Lucian stared at us.

Then his eyes dropped to my stomach, and understanding slowly crossed his face.

“Oh.” His mouth curved into a smile. “You already told her.”

I nodded.

Camilla laughed through her tears. “I couldn’t help it.”

Lucian shook his head. “You’re both so dramatic.”

I laughed. “You’re the dramatic one.”

Lucian gestured toward us. “I came home to find two women crying in my kitchen.”

He walked toward us. “I think I’m allowed to be concerned, Claire.”

Camilla folded her arms in front of her chest and looked at him.

“We’re just very happy.” She stated.

“I can see that.” He smiled.

Then he came up to me and wrapped an arm around my waist.

His hand immediately settled over my stomach.

The gesture was simple, but it made my heart melt.

Camilla watched us with a big smile. “I was just telling Claire how happy your mother would have been.”

Lucian’s expression softened.

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then he looked down at my stomach again, and nodded. “She would have loved this.”

His voice was quieter, and his smile was sadder.

I placed my hand over his. “I’m sure she would have.”

He kissed my temple.

Then suddenly, Camilla frowned. “Wait.”

She looked at him. “Why are you home now?”

Lucian glanced at the clock. “What do you mean?”

“You’re early.”

He shrugged. “I finished work.”

I looked at him suspiciously through the corner of my eyes.

“You finished work?”

I stepped closer to him. “So you mean you weren’t excited to come home and see me?”

He looked down at me, and I watched as his expression softened immediately.

“I didn’t say that.”

Camilla laughed. “There it is.”

Lucian sighed in defeat. “I hate both of you.”

“No, you don’t,” I said.

He kissed my forehead. “No. I don’t.”

Camilla smiled at us, then Lucian looked at her.

“Can I steal her for a moment?” He asked.

Camilla waved her hand. “Of course.”

I laughed. “That’s it?”

“She belongs to you.” Camilla said to Lucian.

Lucian gave her a look. “She does not.”

Camilla grinned. “Not officially—at least not yet.”

Lucian’s eyes narrowed playfully. “I’m beginning to regret asking.”

I slipped my hand into his. “Come on babe.”

We left the kitchen together.

I couldn’t stop smiling as we walked up the stairs. There was something almost surreal about it.

For years, I had walked these halls as Lucian’s wife. Then I had walked away from them as his ex-wife.

Now I was walking through them again… feeling even closer to him than I did when I was his wife.

And carrying his child.

Somehow, it felt less like returning to the past—

And more like a new beginning.
