I eventually realized we weren’t heading back toward the mansion.
“Where are we going?” I asked as I looked out the window.
Lucian kept his eyes on the road. “You’ll see.”
I sighed. “I don’t like it when you’re being mysterious.”
He chuckled. “I think you’ll survive.”
“That depends on where you’re taking me.”
He didn’t say anything to that.
A few minutes later, we turned onto a road I didn’t recognize.
Then another.
And finally, we approached a set of enormous black gates.
I sat upright, alert. I had never been here before.
Were we visiting someone? Surely Lucian would have told me if that was the case.
The gates opened automatically, and Lucian drove through.
The property was huge, but it didn’t have the intimidating grandeur of the Dhark mansion.
It was different.
Newer. Cleaner. More modern.
The immaculate landscaping was one of the first things that caught my attention. Tall trees lined the driveway. The perfectly maintained lawn stretched across both sides.
There was a large garden toward the back, and beyond it, I caught a glimpse of a swimming pool.
I looked at Lucian. “Where are we?”
He finally parked front of the house.
“Come on.” He said as he got out of the car.
I reluctantly followed him.
The house itself was breathtaking—
Floor-to-ceiling windows, clean architectural lines, warm lighting and a wide entrance.
Everything about it looked expensive without feeling cold.
Lucian held the front door open, and I stepped inside first.
I stopped in my tracks.
The interior was even more beautiful.
The living room was enormous, with soft neutral furniture and wide windows overlooking the garden.
The kitchen looked modern and spacious from where I stood.
Everything looked untouched and perfect. Almost too perfect.
I slowly turned toward him. “Lucian.”
He watched me with a small smile. “What is this?”
“Let me show you.” He took my hand, and walked me through the first floor.
The kitchen, the dining room, the family room.
There was a private office which I assumed someone like Lucian would spend all his time in. And of course, there was a beautiful, modern guest room.
Then upstairs.
There were more bedrooms, beautiful bathrooms, and a huge master suite.
The walk-in closet was breathtaking—it was probably larger than my entire apartment.
At some point, I had to stop to stare at Lucian. “You’re not answering my question.”
“We’re almost done.”
Again, that was no answer.
“We?”
He opened another door. It was a smaller bedroom—soft colors, large windows and a lot of space.
I stared at it.
My heart skipped the moment realization hit me. “A nursery?”
Lucian grinned. “Eventually.”
I stared at him.
Although I never said it to him, his excitement about the baby meant the world to me.
We continued down the hallway.
He showed me the security room.
The equipment was far more advanced than what I had seen at the Dhark mansion.
