Danielle wrapped her arms tight around his waist, burying her face against his chest. Her voice was muffled. "I'm just terrified that if we're too late, she won't make it."
"She's so stubborn and so proud. She really will starve herself to death."
"I know." Alex pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "That's why I'm going to lay it all out for him tomorrow."
The night passed without sleep.
First thing the next morning, Alex quickly got ready and drove straight to Sammie's house.
He didn't call ahead. It was an ambush.
Some truths hit harder when the other person doesn't have time to put up their guard.
The moment his car idled outside the gate, the guard stepped up to block his path.
"The Boss is busy. He isn't seeing guests."
The guard's tone was polite, but his stance was immovable.
Alex stared at him with dead calm. "Go in and tell him Alexander Davidson is here."
"I need to see him. It's about Rebecca. He'll see me."
The guard hesitated, but ultimately turned to relay the message.
Within minutes, he returned, his demeanor noticeably relaxed. "Mr. Davidson, please come in."
Alex pushed through the doors into the luxurious but sterile house.
The living room was massive, but it only took one glance to see it lacked any real warmth. The air was thick with rules and suffocation.
Chloe had been sitting on the sofa. Spotting him, she looked slightly taken aback before quickly standing up, pasting on a perfectly polite, gentle smile. "Mr. Davidson, what brings you here?"
Alex gave her a dismissive, glacial look. "I'm looking for Sammie."
Chloe's smile faltered, but she nodded dutifully. "He's in his study. Let me show you the way."

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
