Agains Four day 119
Chapter 119
Sienna
CO
I hadn’t really ventured upstairs much before because as a kid I was scared of getting lost in the maze of rooms. I had even strictly forbidden Aaron from not playing hide and seek in the mansion at all for the very
same reason.
And now as I stared at the floor full of rooms, I wondered which one of these would be the ones with Connor’s mother’s stuff.
Luna Lydia had given me the room numbers as well as the entire set of keys on the two floors but I wasn’t sure I would have enough time to browse through them all.
And part of me also wondered how Connor would react if he found out I went through his mother’s stuff without his knowledge or permission. The fact that I hadn’t told him about his mom’s note was already bothering me.
Setting that idea aside for later, I began working through the individual room preparation, ensuring each room was set up according to the individual preferences of the guests.
I also went back to talk to the head administrator about the lift’s working condition because I figured some of them would hate climbing the stairs.
Alternatively, I also arranged rooms on the ground floor, ignoring Sandra’s changes to the living room.
I was just locking the door of the last room when my phone rang.
Connor’s name flashed on my screen.
I stepped into the corridor and answered.
“Hey,” he said, and his voice sounded a bit tired.
“Where are you?” I couldn’t help but ask. “I haven’t seen you anywhere in the mansion.”
“I’ve been doing field work,” he replied. “Why? Were you looking for me?”
“I was not specifically…” I stopped, because the corridor had a window and through it I could see the garden below where two servants were setting up seating for the outdoor portion of the elder visit in the wrong spot, and I hastily shouted at them.
“No! Put it under the tree shade on the right!!!”
“Oh my goddess, Speckles, I didn’t know you could shout that loud. I need to up my game.”
1 blinked, realized what he was referring to and immediately clarified.
“Tin helping Luna Lydia with the pack elders visit today so you better behave

Chapter 119
“They are visiting today?” He wasn’t aware of this which meant that Aaron was probably right about Alpha Asher having second thoughts about Connor’s leadership.
“Yeah, they are coming over for the succession talks as per your pack’s tradition.”
“I see. He seemed to nod, but his voice was devoid of any worry.
“Connor, the elders are coming specifically to assess the situation, to assess your suitability as the future alpha to the Ashford pack. You should be here, and welcome them personally with your…”
“Charm,” he completed the line for me, and I could hear the smile in it.
“Yes, charm. You’re good at charming so use it. This is important and you should definitely not take it lightly
“Are you worried about me?” he asked.
Tm worried about you not making the right impression and the fact that you’ve been…” I stopped myself short. “I just think you should leave your field work and come over right away.”
“I know how succession talks work, honey. They are likely here to assess if I am the right fit for the throne.”
I frowned. “Why do you not sound even slightly bothered by it?”
“And why do you sound so ruffled, sweetheart? Are you faking concern, my dear fake girlfriend or are you truly choosing me,” he said, “over Aaron?”
“How is this about you or Aaron?”
“Did I get it wrong or you want me to charm the elders so that I get chosen as the future alpha not the love of your life, Aaron?”
“I’m choosing fairness,” I gritted my teeth. “I want it to be fair. Both of you should have the same chance
“Uh huh,” he said, totally not believing me.
“Connor, this is not a joke”
“Never said it was, darling. But you’re already there, my better half.”
“I’m not…” I squeaked, feeling a thrill run down my nerves when he called me that.
“I trust my Sienna,” he said in a tone of finality, “to represent us both while I am away?”
The way he said it made my heart skip a beat. He really had a way with words Anybody else saying it would be cheesy, him saying it just made me nervous and blush.
“Your Sienna?,” I repeated.
“Yes,” he said simply. “Is that a problem?”
“No,” I said, which came out slightly breathless, which I was hoping he wouldn’t notice

From the sound of his next pause, he had definitely noticed.
“Good,” he stated. “Go charm the elders. I’ll be done with what I’m doing in some time”
“What are you doing?” I asked, growing curious. “What’s more important than this?”
