I chatted politely with Elder Maren and Elder Kosta for a while, both of whom seemed very happy with how their rooms turned out.
“I was worried the rooms would be flashy like the living room but I was relieved to see the room exactly like I wanted, simple with minimal furniture”
“Yeah, and she also put that earthen pot on my bedside table as well as the bamboo rug near my bed just like I loved.” Elder Kosta told Elder Maren.
A small ray of hope ignited in me at that. Atleast not everybody hated me tonight.
I chatted with the other elders as well who complimented me on various aspects from my dress to the hospitality and I bowed at them every single time.
Elder Maren coughed delicately once and a server quickly rushed forward to offer her a glass of water but I shook my head. “Elder Maren catches slight cold when she travels. A hot cup of tea would help.”
Elder Maren beamed at me, taking my hands in hers and giving it a reassuring pat.
“You are going to be a perfect Luna if you remember such tiny details.”
I only smiled at the compliment but caught Sandra scowling from the other end of the table. Her eyes were narrowed to us and she was leaning forward, hearing every word spoken between us and ignoring Elder Joahnson for a while.
I tried not to chuckle as I turned my attention to Luna Lydia and Alpha Asher.
“Alpha, Luna. Should I ask the kitchen staff to bring over the food? Dinner time is getting closer for most of our respected elders.”
Luna Lydia glanced at her wristwatch and mumbled. “Oh, I didn’t even notice how time flew by. You look lovely by the way, dear”
“Thank you. You and alpha Asher look the perfect couple as always”
Then she glanced at Alpha Asher and asked. “We should get dinner started, right dear?”
Alpha Asher nodded. “Yes, please don’t keep the elders waiting.”
He still didn’t look my way.
I caught Maria’s eye across the room and she came over, and we went through the order quietly–which dishes came out first, which elder got what, who needed the substitutions we’d arranged.
The servants immediately sprang into action. One after another, silver lids lifted from elegant platters as the first course was served exclusively to the Elders.

As per Ashford pack tradition, the elders ate first and only when they were finished did the plates even go in front of the other guests.
Maria had told me of this unspoken rule, and I oversaw the placement of all the plates and cloches.
The rest of the guests continued chatting over wine while waiting for their turn, moving to the outer living hall to let the elders eat in silence while only the Ashford family and staff stayed back.
Sandra just sat beside Aaron, not attempting to get up or serve the elders. Not that I minded.
I personally placed Elder Maren’s plate before her and her eyes immediately brightened.
“My goodness.” She looked delighted. “Is that shellfish?”
“I remembered it was your favorite.” I smiled at her.
“That is wonderful of you. She smiled so widely that tiny wrinkles appeared around her eyes.
Elder Johanson received his preferred roasted venison with all the trimmings. The elders began eating and I stood back, sighing in relief as Elder Maren took her first bite and hummed in approval.
“This is absolutely delicious!”
“Glad that you are loving the meal”
The words had barely left my mouth when another chair scraped loudly against the marble floor.
All heads turned to look at Elder Johanson who had risen so abruptly that his wine glass rattled.
His face had gone red and he looked absolutely livid.
“What,” he demanded angrily, finger pointed towards Elder Maren’s plate “is that doing on this table?”
The room quietened as everybody stopped eating momentarily. Luna Lydia looked confused as Elder Johanson glared daggers at her.
“Shellfish?” he said, voice sharp enough to cut through the silence. “Lydia, you know I’m deathly allergic to it. Why would you serve this?”
“Elder Johanson, please calm down” Luna Lydia began but he snapped at her.
“Is this your idea of hospitality?”
“Elder Johansson,” Luna Lydia said, already moving to gentle management, “you’ve been served your venison just like the way…..”
“I can see what I’ve been served.”
He then looked at Alpha Asher.
“This is disrespectful! After everything I’ve done for this pack, you serve me something that could kill me?”

I stepped in to offer an explanation.
“Elder Johanson, all precautions were taken. The shellfish was prepared in an entirely separate kitchen with different staff and utensils. There’s zero risk of cross–contamination. I made sure of it personally so everyone could enjoy their favorites tonight.”
“I don’t care.” His glare finally shifted toward me. “You expected me to dine beside it.”
I still continued to talk politely but firmly. “Luna Lydia informed me that your allergy flares only if you eat it. Hence, rest assured, there is no chance of shellfish going in your mouth because a separate cook made it and I personally…”
Johanson turned his anger on me fully. “You young wolves think you can just do whatever you want these days. Such blatant disrespect of elders would cost you your life I was the alpha”
He slammed his fist on the table and the silverware rattled due to the impact.
Sandra sighed softly beside Aaron. Her eyes gleamed with something like satisfaction as she leaned in. “Sienna really shouldn’t have taken it upon herself like that,” she said sweetly, voice dripping with false concern. “I’m so sorry, Elder Johanson. She’s still learning how things are done here.”
My head turned toward her and she shot me an apologetic smile.
“I know your heart was in the right place,” she continued sweetly, “but perhaps next time you should think about everyone’s comfort before making decisions.”
Then she looked at Elder Johanson. “I truly apologize on Sienna’s behalf, Elder Johanson. I am sure her intention was never to disrespect you.” She directed her gaze at me still smiling sweetly.
“Right Sienna?”
My face burned and I kept my head slightly bowed, hands clasped in front of me. “I’m truly sorry if I offended you, Elder Johanson. It was never my intention. I only wanted everyone to feel welcomed and celebrated.”
Luna Lydia tried to intervene. “Elder Johanson, please, it was an honest mistake”
“Honest?” he snapped, cutting her off. “If this is how your future Luna behaves, perhaps the Ashfords need to reconsider their choices. Disrespect like this has no place at this table.”
Then he looked directly at me.
