Chapter 141
Sienna
I stepped out of Connor’s office and pulled the door shut behind me before I could take my words back and give in to my wish of kissing him knowing that I wasn’t going to get a taste of him for a few days that now fel like a decade too long.
Meanwhile, my heart was doing an Olympic sprint inside my chest and my palms were clammy.
What the hell did I just do?
I had just banned myself from the one thing that made my brain stop screaming for five consecutive minute
No kissing, no sex and limited touching…like we were two awkward teenagers in a church youth group instea of the pair who just couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
And the worst part? I meant it. Or at least I wanted to mean it.
After Asher’s little “please don’t let me lose my son” speech, the last thing I needed was Connor flying off the handle again because of me. One more public limb-removal or even just his raised voice in a room full of people and the elders would hand the succession to Aaron with a shiny bow and leave Connor with a “better luck next life” card.
And I didn’t even want to think about Sandra and her threat. No, it was too much to process all on my own.
I needed to talk to someone before my brain melted. Talking to Aaron used to be easy but now there was too much awkwardness so my go to person would obviously be Jane.
I looked around, found a corner to slip away and then dialed Jane’s number. She received it on the first ring but her voice sounded drowsy.
“I think I should start charging you for being your unofficial therapist”
“Yeah, good evening to you to, Jane”
The muffled sound of TV reached my ears through the phone.
“Did you fall asleep re-watching your favorite show for the fifth time?”
Jane stifled a yawn. “Something like that.”
She was about to launch into a summary of the episode I had no interest in hearing so I hissed.
“Jane, this is an emergency best-friend meeting. Code: I-may-have-ruined-my-sex-life.”
That
got her attention and I could practically see her eyes sparkling with interest. “Okay, you got me intrigued. Did you get afraid of some position and chicken out at the last minute?”
I groaned and buried my face in my hands. “Worse. I just told him no more sex or kissing until the succession

that guy’s arms off for touching you and you responded by friend-zoning him? Babe. That’s not a solution. That’s a crime against good sex.”
“I was trying to be responsible!”
“Responsible?” She must have switched the TV off because the noise died down, her voice dropping into pure gossip mode.
“He went full dark-romance anti-hero in front of the entire pack for you and your reaction is ‘let’s be supportive friends and hold hands at meetings’? I would have climbed him like a tree.”
I chewed on my nails like a nervous teenager. “You’re not helping.”
“I’m helping me. Mentally I’m already writing a fanfiction titled ‘Sienna’s Terrible Decision and the poor Alpha Who Suffered.”
I laughed despite myself, then sighed. “I don’t want to be the reason he does something else insane. Alpha Asher made it sound like there’s this… darkness in him. Like whatever happened to his mom could happen to him.”
Jane’s voice softened for half a second before the chaos returned. “Okay, brainstorm time. So you called me to find alternative solutions that don’t involve you dying of sexual frustration.”
“No, I wanted to share…” I began but then she spent the next ten minutes throwing out increasingly ridiculous ideas:
“You could fake a medical condition that requires ‘platonic massages only: Or just keep having sex but only in places with zero chance of public interruption like the basement..or Antarctica.”
I shook my head through her increasingly insane ideas and I was laughing so hard, I almost startled a maid passing by.

Then Jane suddenly snapped her fingers. “Wait. His mom asked you to bring Peter Ra
completely forgot about it, didn’t you?”
I froze. “Oh goddess. Yes.”
“You shut /Connor down and you need to dig through his mother’s personal stuff? That’s going to be awkward as hell.”
I groaned. “How do I even ask? ‘Hey Connor, I know I just banned us from touching each other, but can you show me your mom’s childhood books real quick?””
Jane grinned. “Easy. Tell him you want to understand him better. Call it a bonding activity where you want to focus on emotional intimacy instead of physical. He’ll eat that up.”
I stared at the phone. “That’s… actually not terrible. You truly should try becoming a therapist”
“I’m a genius. Now go be a supportive fake girlfriend and snoop for cursed children’s literature. And if you end up breaking your own rule in the process, I expect a full report.”
I stepped out of the corner, still half-laughing, half-terrified. “You’re the worst best friend.”
“I’m the best best friend,” she corrected, sounding all too pleased with herself. “Now go. And try not to stare at Connor for too long when you ask about Peter Rabbit.”
I walked away with my heart still racing, but at least now it was racing with purpose instead of pure panic.
Peter Rabbit, here I come.
But first I was going to try very hard not to serve Johanson shellfish!
