The Wrong Brother’s Temptation
Chapter 188
Sienna
I tugged at the side zipper of the skirt a bit too hard and it caught halfway.
I tugged but it refused to budge.

Why was the universe hellbent on making me look like an utter fool in front of the impeccably dressed Connor??
“Speckles, you should…”
“I am fine” I yanked at the zipper harder than necessary but it just didn’t move.
Part of me wondered if he had done this to humiliate me.
“Wait”
Connor’s fingers closed gently over mine and I froze again, every nerve suddenly loud.
Why the hell was I reacting so much to his touch when he had already devoured me?
Meds, I needed my meds!!
While I was trying not to panic, without a word he angled me toward him, one hand steady at my waist while the other worked the zipper the rest of the way.
The sound of it closing felt louder than it should have. Then, he reached for the belt wordlessly and guided it around my waist.
I just stood there stupidly as he wrapped his arms around me as he fastened the buckle.
For one breathless second I thought he was going to kiss the side of my neck. My eyes fluttered shut. My whole body leaned back into his chest before I could stop it, seeking the contact like it was the only solid thing left in a tilting world.
Instead I heard the soft click of the buckle.
“There you go” He mumbled and the words tore through the haze.
Embarrassment flooded me so fast I felt dizzy.
I was leaning on him like I belonged there and like the last twenty–four hours hadn’t been a chaotic mess.
I hastily straightened myself, mumbled a thanks against his sweater that sounded muffled and small to my
ears.
His voice had gone slightly husky. “You’re welcome.”

Or maybe I was imagining it.
I felt him look at my hair.

His hand lifted and hovering near my cheek like he wanted to touch me again, maybe tilt
But then he pulled it back with visible restraint…that I wasn’t showing.
‘Get your head together, Sienna‘
my face up.
“You should rest,” I suggested, forcing it past the tightness in my throat. “You are still recovering. So please don’t overexert yourself.”
He nodded, the motion almost gentle. “Alright”
Why did I feel he stepped away from me reluctantly? I needed to go back to my room and get those damn meds before I faced anybody else.
“I’ll let Maria help with the hair and boots.” He added a second later and took a few more steps away from me and towards the door.
The sudden absence of his heat made me feel a chill against my spine that had nothing to do with the cold air. The sweater was lightweight and fluffy, breathable and not itchy that I hugged myself with.
Connor walked to the door and left without another word.
I sucked in a shaky breath the second it closed and sank onto the bed, telling myself with increasing desperation to get a grip and whether I could just make a quick run upstairs in the mansion to get my wolf scent dampening meds.
My hands trembled slightly. Everywhere he’d touched still tingled like it had been branded all over again this time with care instead of hunger.
Maria walked in a minute later. Her sharp eyes flicked once to the damp towel on the floor, once to the faintly damp sleeve of Connor’s sweater where he must have brushed against me helping with my hair, and said nothing about either.
She simply pulled out a comb from her bag and started working on my hair.
“Your sweater is a bit damp. You might catch a cold” she mumbled to herself then picked the dryer to blow hot air on the damp part beneath my neck.
I sat and let her do her work as she mumbled occasionally, filling the silence between us.
“Maria,” I said after a while, unable to hold it in any longer. “Do you think its a good idea to return to the
mansion so soon?”
Her comb paused for a brief second. “Why do you ask?”
I shrugged, feeling nervous. “It has not even been twenty four hours since the trial. I am sure the hollow arena’s floor would still have stains of Connor’s blood over it.”

“The mansion is his home. You cant expect him to stay here forever, dear”
I bit at my lower lip.

“I know. But shouldn’t he have rested in the hospital for a week atleast, recovered completely and then gone to face the elders?”
She came to stand in front of me and gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze.
“You worry a lot about him, don’t you?”
“I–yes. He suffered because of me already and I fear its going to be even worse for him to go face them all again the next morning.”
Her hands didn’t pause. “Bad in what sense, dear?”
“Judgment. Talk. All of it.” I picked at a loose thread on the bedsheet. “The elders already think I’m… I don’t even know what they think. And then as if to spite them, we will walk in wearing matching outfits and… and Connor’s going to have to face them right after nearly dying, and I just…” I stopped, breath catching, unable to find the right words to express my concerns.
“I don’t want him to get hurt again, not when he still has bandages around his neck and torso.”
Maria’s expression softened. “Sweetheart, do you think Connor is worried about the bandages right now?”
“He should be.”
“But he isn’t,” she stated it like a fact.
