Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Sienna

I wasn’t staring at just shirtless Connor.

I was gawking at freshlyshowered, waterstilldrippingdownhisback Connor.

I should have looked away, pulled the sheet back up and pretended to still be asleep.

I should have done literally anything other than what I was doing, which was openly gawking at him like life depended on it.

And it was under extreme duress that I must admit that Connor had a really, really good back.

He had broad shoulders that tapered down to a narrow waist and muscles that shifted and flexed as he mo reaching for a towel. His skin still glistened slightly with water droplets that I suddenly, inexplicably, wante to trace with my fingers.

What was wrong with me?

This was Connor!

Connor, who had spent our entire childhood making my life miserable and then kissed me yesterday just to prove a point.

And currently he was running a towel through his dark hair, water droplets trailing down the back of his neck. and going farther down.

Stop it, I commanded my brain. Stop it right now.

But my brain, apparently, had other ideas.

My gaze was transfixed to Connor who lazily tossed the towel aside and reached for another one to dry the rest of himself, my eyes tracking the movement like I was watching the season finale of my favorite show and couldn’t look away.

He had an athletic build. Not overly bulky like Jake had been, but lean and strong in a way that suggested be could probably benchpress me without breaking a sweat.

Of all the men in this huge freaking world. Connor was not the one I should be having such thoughts about

Not now or ever.

I tried hard to remind myself of the absolute menace he was in my childhood but that thought evaporateif when he grabbed a comb from the dresser and ran it through his hair

I swallowed hard as if my brain was trying to link the two versions of Connor and didn’t quite know how to

There was something weirdly intimate about watching him do something so mundane, like I was seeing a side

of Connor that nobody else got to see.

It was a good body.

A really, really good body.

The kind of body that probably should come with a warning label.

And I was staring at it like some kind of creep.

Enjoying the view?I heard him ask without looking at me.

I yelped and immediately yanked the sheet back up over my face, my heart trying to jackhammer its way of my chest.

Oh Goddess.

Oh Goddess, he knew I’d been staring.

He’d caught me redhanded, ogling him like some kind of pervert, and now I was going to die of embarrassment.

They’d put it on my tombstone: Here lies Sienna Miller, who died because she couldn’t stop staring at her childhood bully’s abs. Death by mortification!

I stayed hidden under the sheet for what felt like an eternity but was probably only about five seconds, trying to will myself into spontaneous combustion.

When that didn’t work, I slowly lowered the sheet, peeking out cautiously.

Connor had turned around.

And thank the Goddess he’d put on jeans.

The dark jeans sat low on his hips and did absolutely nothing to help my current mental state, but at least he was partially clothed now.

He was standing in front of his wardrobe, casually rifling through shirts as if he hadn’t just caught me checking him out.

His back was to me again, and I took the opportunity to sit up fully, trying to smooth down my disaster of a hair and salvage whatever dignity I had left.

Spoiler alert- it wasn’t much.

Where am I?I asked, proud that my voice only shook a little.

Connor pulled out a dark blue shirt and glanced at me over his shoulder, one eyebrow raised.

In my bed.

Chapter 19

The words made my eyes almost pop out of the skull.

I was in Connor’s bed!

I scrambled out of his bed like it was made of lava, but my feet got tangled in the sheets.

I stumbled, arms flailing as I tried to catch my balance, and careened directly toward Connor.

He turned just in time to catch me, his hands coming up to steady me as I slammed into his bare chest. My hand was pressed flat against his ripped, toned chest, and I could feel his heartbeat under my palm

It was steady and completely at odds with my own heart, which was currently trying to win a race against itself.

I looked up at him, my mouth suddenly dry.

He was close enough that I could see the water droplets still clinging to his collarbone and could also smell the earthy, woodsy of his cologne.

My gaze dropped to his full lips, recalling the kiss. If I would lean in just a little, our lips would brush.

Maybe, he would kiss me, maybe he would

Sia?

The voice came from the doorway, and my entire body went rigid, dispelling all my stupid thoughts about Connor.

I knew that voice.

I turned my head slowly, dread pooling in my stomach, and met Aaron’s eyes.
