Chapter 191
Sinna
His hand came up slowly and pushed the hair back from my face. His fingers brushed my cheek, then my lips, tracing the outline of my mouth with a lightness that made me gasp before I could stop myself.
“You have nothing to be afraid of. I am right here with you.”
“Somebody has to because you are being reckless” I said, my voice unsteady. “You just got stabbed.”
Nobody had come to pay him a visit the entire night and this morning either. Not the pack elders, and certainly not the person he called his biological father.
They weren’t expecting him to come over so soon either or maybe they didn’t want to.
He lowered his head. His mouth found the shell of my ear, and his lips grazed it, sending a shiver down my spine that had absolutely nothing to do with the temperature of the hall.
“I’m not a coward who runs,” he murmured. “So you won’t either.”
“I’m not trying to make you run,” I explained or rather squeaked. “I’m nervous. For you…and for us. I don’t want them to use any of this against you. Not after everything.”
He pulled back just enough to cup my face with both hands, his eyes steady and serious on mine now, all the teasing momentarily set aside. “Can you be brave for me? Because I don’t want to be brave alone. Sia”
Sia.
He called me Sia, not speckles and not sienna.
That nickname was given to me by Aaron but why the hell did it sound so rich and velvety soft in his voice?
I looked at him for a long moment. My heart still hadn’t remembered how to behave properly but somehow loved hearing him call me that. Finally and very slowly, I nodded.
“Good girl,” he said, low and warm, and something in my chest flipped completely over, unhelpfully, thoroughly. “Stay put, and I’ll reward you soon…or tie you down. I think you will love both equally.”
I flushed from my scalp downward as his hand trailed from my face, down my shoulder, and along my arm, until his fingers closed gently but firmly around my wrist.
He held the same wrist he’d caught me by moments earlier and he led me toward the dining hall before I could gather the strength for another argument.
The dining hall was already full when we crossed the threshold, and his hand was still wrapped around my wrist like he had no intention whatsoever of letting me bolt back toward the stairs the second we entered.
The long table stretched the full length of the room and I saw the morning light pouring through the tall windows and catching against silverware and porcelain.
The whole scene was ordinary and jarringly at odds with the churn currently happening in my stomach.
It looked like a perfectly normal breakfast in an ordinary household, which felt almost offensive given that the man currently guiding me toward an empty chair had been bleeding on a hospital gurney twelve hours earlier.
Instead of nervousness, I started to feel anger.

How could all these people be so shameless?
Sidra was seated close to Elder Johansson, leaning toward him with a delighted expression that told me my instincts about he were right and she was already planning something wicked.
That, more than anything else this morning, sent a fresh spike of anger straight through me.
My gaze fell on the knife lying beside an apple and I resisted the urge to throw it at her and maybe even hurt Johanson in the process.
Connor looked at me suddenly, with his brows furrowed.
“Are you okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” I muttered, trying to not glare at Sandra and then Aaron who appeared too lost in his food.
“Your pulse…” he replied, looking at his thumb resting on the inside of my wrist.
There was no point in lying then.
“I feel like murdering someone”
His eyes widened just a little.
“Woah, calm down, my lady. We are here to feast, but not on blood”
Before I could reply, I heard someone calling out to us.
“Connor! Sienna!”
Luna Lydia was on her feet almost before we’d fully crossed the threshold, already waving toward the nearest servant. “Come, sit and join us”
She then looked at the servant, “please set two more places, quickly” before turning back to us.
“How are you feeling now, Connor?”
Connor gave her a tight smile. “Never felt better”
“You do look fresh for a person who….” she began but trailed off when she stole a quick glance at her husband seated beside
her.
“I am glad you are okay and chose to come have breakfast with us this morning” She managed to say to which he only nodded.
Alpha Asher glanced up from his plate just long enough to say, “Doctor informed me that you were recovering steadily last night. But you are free to take a few more days of rest if needed from work”
Connor shook his head. “Thanks for the offer but no alpha, I am feeling fine“.
I couldn’t even imagine having such a dry and professional conversation with my dad. He would be worried sick for me and never leave my bedside. And somehow, I had felt incredibly sad to see Connor lying there all alone with no family member to come check on him.
What was even the point of becoming their alpha if nobody cared about him?
“Come sit, Connor” Elder Maren gestured towards the chair a servant had moved in the other corner of the table.
“Sure” he smiled but then instead of walking towards the chair the servant was pulling back for him, turned around towards

the two empty chairs on the left, directly across from Elder Johanson.
