The Wrong Brother's Temptation novel Chapter 192

Sinna

I gave Connor a pointed look but he only slapped my back with a bit more force than necessary because we were surrounded by the elders.

“She has even thought of names of a few of them”

A few elder women alongwith Maren cooed, gushing about wanting to see kids running around the mansion.

I coughed hard at that line and reached for a glass to drink water as Connor’s hand wrapped behind my chair and patted my back.

“Right, my luna?”

I pretended to drink water just so I wouldn’t have to answer him but he kept pressing on.

“She gets a little shy at times.” Connor kept rubbing my back as I sat down beside him, my own plate arriving a moment later.

Scrambled eggs, toast, and a glass of juice arrived in front of me and I tried very hard to eat like a normal person while every nerve in my body stayed fixed on the tension radiating from directly across the table.

Elder Kosta, further down, added, “You had us all quite worried, young man. We all planned to visit you last night but the doctor said you needed rest. Then we thought of coming over this morning but you are already here.”

Surprise flickered across Connor’s face at that followed by a warm smile, “I appreciate the concern.”

Johansson had still not talked to Connor or even looked at him and his behavior had apparently become obvious to the entire table by now.

My gaze flicked to Connor as he peeled the rind of the apple and popped another slice in his mouth, looking thoroughly pleased with himself.

Reluctantly, Johanson finally looked up from his plate, feigning surprise like he’d only just now realized that Connor had arrived and sat down directly across from him.

“Glad to see you’re well,” he mumbled with a mouth full of eggs, offering a smile that didn’t come anywhere close to reaching his eyes.

“Just a bit of stiffness in the neck,” Connor replied with a warm smile I could never achieve, rolling one shoulder casually like he had slept on the wrong side of the bed, not nearly died last night.

“Slept at an odd angle, apparently and got a cramped neck but otherwise I am completely fine.”

I stared very hard at my plate to keep my expression from not showing what I actually wanted to do to the old geezer.

Was Connor really going to sit here, in front of the entire pack council, and describe the events of the previous night as sleeping at an odd angle?

I caught Maria’s eye from where she stood near the other end of the table, overseeing the service, and she gave me the smallest, knowing smile before turning back to whatever task had brought her into the room.

I understood, all at once, exactly what she’d meant back at the hospital.

He wants to make a statement without needing to say a single word.

I blinked, trying to process it all.

was it. This was the entire statement connor planned, a befitting reply to Johanson by walking in looking completely ca and composed and having me by his side wearing a matching outfit to show how nothing he did last night affected him

or Ais.

By treating an actual near–death experience like a minor sleep inconvenience, Connor refused to give a single person at this table the satisfaction of watching him look angry or hurt.

If anything, he had just put a tight slap on those who tried to put him down without raising his voice.

I dropped my hand under the table and found his knee to rest my palm there, not entirely sure whether the gesture warfor his benefit or mine.

“Sienna,” Aaron said, from further down the table, leaning slightly to catch my attention with an easy, warm smile. “You look radiant this morning. In fact, you look much better than last night.”

Sandra’s head snapped in my direction fast enough that her earrings swung visibly, and she glared hard at Aaron who either didn’t notice or chose very deliberately not to, and continued right on without missing a single beat.

“And…you look so….different” He said, looking at the outfit I was wearing.

“Thanks” I mumbled.

“You should try different styles like this. It really suits you…”

Connor, who was busy acting unbothered, slowly flicked his gaze from the elders to Aaron.

“Maybe try a brighter color next time. It will really bring out the color of your eyes Aaron suggested and Connor’s hand that was resting on the back of the chair came to rest on my shoulder.

“Don’t worry, little brother. I already filled her wardrobe with a lot of different outfits for her to try. She looks gorgeous in my choice of clothes, doesn’t she?”

What the hell was Connor doing?

Aaron gave him a small nod as he saw the way Connor’s arm was brushing my shoulder lazily.

“Yes”

“It was a bit cold today so I suggested that outfit.”

Connor lowered his voice and leaned forward as if he was sharing a secret with Aaron. “It will also keep her warm and the bite marks hidden”
