He walked around the edge and now towards the side of the bed and I crawled back, trying to find more room but there was nothing except the bed’s headboard behind me.

I tried to scramble away and jump out of the bed but then his hand grabbed my wrist and he yanked me closer, pushing me down on the bed.

I let out a startled gasp as he leaned down, bringing his face close to mine, and whatever I’d been about to say next died completely in my throat.

The intensity in his eyes stole the air right out of my lungs.

I tried very hard not to breathe in his scent and not feel the way my pulse jumped from where he was touching me, holding me captive in his arm.

I let my gaze drop instead to the edge of the bandage peeking out from his sweater collar, and that served as a small reminder of exactly how close he’d come to not being here to have this argument with me at all.

“What did you just say?” he asked, low.

I gave him a nervous smile. “I was saying we should stop-”

He raised a hand and placed one finger against my lips, silencing me completely.

I stared at him, wide–eyed.

Confusion and something dangerously close to arousal warred in my chest, and I tamped the second feeling down hard, pressing forward around his finger.
