Aaron stiffened at first and cast his glance at the doorway he probably didn’t see Connor walk in through.
Neither did I. How long had he been standing there and listening to our little conversation?
“What do you mean?”
Aaron chose acting innocent.
And I slowly turned to look at the man who always made my breath hitch for the wrong reasons.
Connor was leaning on the doorframe casually, an apple and that stupid knife in his hand.
I was truly beginning to feel that he just slept with that knife under the pillow because how did he just magically pulled it out of his pockets every time?
“Oh, want me to remind you? Not a problem, little bro.” Connor munched on an apple slice and continued.
“You wanted to help her by pretending to help me by giving her the list of questions asked to you…and as a result I donated a lot of blood to the ancient stones in the hollow arena.”
Aaron’s face shriveled and he fumbled, struggling for words.
“That was not my intention, Connor. Had I known that would happen, I would have never told her anything.”
He then looked frantically back to me.
“You trust me on that, right?”
Before I could answer, Connor butted in again, casually carving another slice for himself.
“Exactly why you are here to repeat it despite knowing how it ended the last time.”
Aaron shook himself like a bird rustling its feathers.
“Look, Connor, I know you dont really like me but…”
“Did you not listen to him answer the question about family, last night Aaron? He took your name.”
I blurted out and for a while the three of us were stunned. I myself wasn’t sure why I felt the need to say that.
Connor and Aaron had identical expressions of surprise on their faces, however, Connor, had a touch of smugness to it.
I would deal with him later.
“You…you are defending him?” Aaron asked in a shocked voice.

Connor folded his hands on his chest, looking too pleased with himself.
“Yeah, Sia. Are you defending me?”
Aaron shot him an angry look at that. “Don’t call her that.”
Connor simply shrugged. “I can call my girlfriend whatever the hell I want”

“That’s…thats preposterous. She has been my best friend since childhood and only I get to call her that.”
Connor popped another slice in his mouth. “Not anymore”
The calm with which he was talking was so damn infuriating, I feared this little spat would soon turn into a brawl.
“Aaron, relax” I tried to calm him down but that only did the opposite.
“You’re telling me to relax? Sienna, I don’t know what has gotten into you that you are ignoring a walking red flag”
“Praising me behind my back, little brother?”
Aaron straightened, composing himself fast. “I was just talking to my best friend right in front of you.”
“You should talk to your girlfriend instead and tell her to stop being a bitch”
“How fucking dare you call Sandra that?” Aaron took a step forward and I had to physically put myself between them both to stop Aaron from advancing further.
“How fucking dare I speak the truth?” Connor retorted.
“You…”
I mean your girl keeps trying to hurt mine so instead of telling my girl what to do, go have a chat with your selfish girlfriend instead.”
“How wonderfully caveman of you to blame others when you are the one at fault here,” Aaron laughed but there was no humor in it.
“Be a man and talk to me instead of dragging Sandra in this!”
“Says the one who was talking to Sienna behind my back instead of talking to me like the man you are. Bravo,
little bro.”
The way Connor both slapped him and called him ‘lil bro‘ in the same line made Aaron’s jaw twitch.
“You won’t listen to me if I did talk to you”
Connor smirked. “That you are right, for once in your life. Besides, you also didn’t deny that Sandra is after Sienna? Good to know”

“Sandra gets a little competitive at times but that’s it, she isn’t ruthless like you”
Connor dusted imaginary speck of dirt off his sleeve.

“She would need a few lifetimes to get to my level, but I must agree that she uses Johanson pretty well
“Again with the blame game.”
Aaron threw his hands up in despair and then pointed at Connor while looking at me.
“Look at this…this…this smug arrogance….that’s the man you are defending…”
Aaron fumbled for words and 1 felt a headache creeping up my head. I was going to need a very strong coffee.
“Do you really want to be with him?”
“Newsflash, she already is. So stay away from what’s mine” Connor warned and those simple words made my heart flutter.
“Aaron, just calm down please. And Connor, will you…”
I tried but I might as well have spoken to the walls.
“Oh really? Does this whole place belong to you as well? Should I check if you’ve also claimed the furniture, or is that a separate ceremony?” Aaron was now shaking with anger.
“Careful,” Connor said, mildly dangerous. “I might claim your girlfriend too, if you keep talking. Wouldn’t want to leave anything of yours unattended. But then I really don’t go after my brother’s girlfriend so no, hard pass.”
Aaron’s jaw tightened. “That’s low, even for you.”
“I’m simply matching your energy,” Connor replied. “You started the conversation about ownership. I’m just clarifying the terms.”
I stared at Connor, genuinely unsure what was happening to the man who’d been carefully, deliberately controlled with me not thirty minutes ago.
