Something like guilt flickered across Aaron’s face and for one moment the confidence slipped enough that I could see underneath it.

“Okay,” I said, stepping between them before this could go any further, one hand pressed flat against each of their chests like I was physically holding the whole hallway together.

“Stop it, both of you. This is a corridor, not a courtroom, and I am not a verdict either of you gets to hand down.”

Connor’s eyes moved from Aaron to me, and his expression softened marginally.

He simply threw the apple core away, dusted his hands before he reached for my arm and pulled me gently but firmly toward him, away from Aaron’s side.

“I get to call you mine, don’t I?”

His hand slowly, leisurely travelled up my arm, over my shoulder to cup my face, his palm almost covering one side of my cheek entirely.

With Aaron watching, I definitely couldn’t say no. But that didn’t mean I was okay with him picking fights like he had nothing better to do.

His thumb kept brushing against my cheek as he pulled me even closer with Aaron right there behind me. And I could imagine him drilling holes into my skull with how much anger seemed to radiate from him.

“Yes…but…”

His thumb then traced the outline of my lower lip and I momentarily forgot what I was going to say.

My eyelids fluttered and I had trouble forming a coherent sentence.

“Where were you going,” he asked, all the ice from a second ago gone from his voice entirely as he looked at the purse dangling from my other shoulder.

“I was going to meet Jane at a cafe for a change”

Before he could reply, Aaron asked brightly from behind me.

“Jane? Are you still friends with her? And Olivia?”

I turned to look at him. “Yeah, Jane was there with Sandra and her friends when we all went to the resort?”

Aaron blinked as if he didn’t remember that well enough or didn’t care to.

“Oh right” he slapped his forehead. “It would be great to catch up with her.”

“Catch up?”

Jane and him were never friends, not really.

“She didn’t invite you, jackass,” Connor grunted. “So stop inserting yourself everywhere”

Connor’s gaze flicked back to me and then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a black card.

Then he again slowly and leisurely opened my palm without asking, and pressed that card into my hand.

“What’s this?” I asked, staring at that small, square piece of plastic.

closing my fingers around it deliberately.

“You’re my girlfriend,” he answered. “So naturally it’s my duty to keep you happy. Use it for whatever you want and have a good time with your friend. Don’t worry about spending, it has no limits or restrictions.”

“Thanks, but I don’t need this,” I shook my head, trying to hand it back.

He didn’t take it. Instead he cupped my face with both hands, entirely aware of exactly who was still standing three feet away watching every second of it.

“Keep it,” he insisted. “In fact, I should have given it to you long back but its not too late now either”

“You’re being ridiculous,” I replied, though I didn’t try to give it back a second time.

“I’m being generous,” he corrected me. “There’s a difference.”

Aaron’s jaw was visibly tight now. He glanced down at his phone that had started ringing when Connor pulled out the card. He still hadn’t answered it.

The phone rang a second time and then Sandra’s high pitched voice reached us as she climbed down the

stairs.

“Aaron, where the hell have you been? I was looking all around for you”

Her heels clicked a bit too loudly against the polished floor as she descended the last set of stairs and approached Aaron.

“I am right here, baby. What happened?”

She batted her eyelashes and then frowned as she placed her arms on Aaron’s chest.

“Where’s your phone? I was calling you”

Aaron smiled at her. “Sorry, I was distracted and…”

He began but then Sandra let out a loud, startled gasp as she looked at me and Connor and the card in my

hand.

“What is that?”

Connor pulled me closer, making my back hit his chest as he raised our joined hands to wave the card at her.

“Oh you mean this?”

Sandra’s eyes grew wider than saucers. “Oh my Goddess. Is that the Amex black card, one with no limits on spending?”

“The one and only.” Connor grinned, still waving it at her.

She turned to look at Aaron, a complaint already rising on her lips. “Why does she get one while I don’t? I am the future luna of this pack too, right?”

Aaron gave her an awkward smile. “A future luna is supposed to be mindful of the expenses and ensure that the pack’s treasury isnt drained for her needs. It won’t look good on you, sweetheart.”

He tried to pacify her and she frowned but it looked like she might give in.

Connor didn’t have any intentions of letting that happen.

“Ah, that’s true. And that is why this card is linked to my personal account, not the pack treasury.”

Both Sandra and Aaron looked at him in shock..

“Your personal account?” Sandra gawked.
