Sienna

For a second, I thought I was imagining it.

Of all the people I expected to run into tonight, he wasn’t even a possibility. Not after the silence. Not afte the way he had just disappeared like I was something he could put aside and forget about.

Aaron?

His name left my mouth before I could stop it, softer and almost pleading.

He turned fully then, his expression shifting from distraction to surprise in a heartbeat.

“Sienna? What are you

I didn’t let him finish.

The moment I knew it was really him, something inside me gave way. The frustration, the confusion, the lingering anger I had been holding onto for days…. all of it took a backseat to one overwhelming feeling which was relief.

Before I could think better of it, I closed the distance and wrapped my arms around him tightly.

For a brief second, he went still, clearly not expecting it, and then his arms came around me, almost instinctively.

And that was all it took to make me let out the breath I was holding.

I hadn’t realized how much I needed the familiar warmth and the steadiness of it.

Sienna, what the hell? His voice came out sharper now, but there was concern underneath it, real and unmistakable. What are you doing here? And why do you look so worried? Are you okay?

The questions came one after the other, but I couldn’t answer.

Because if I pulled away and started talking, this moment would end. And right now. I wasn’t ready to let go of the only thing that had felt familiar and steady.

So I just held onto him for a second longer.

Hey,” he said more quietly, pulling back just enough to look at me, his hands settling on my shoulders. Talk to me.

I opened my mouth, intending to reply but nothing came out.

My thoughts were still a mess, my emotions too close to the surface

Why haven’t you been in touch?I asked, keeping my tone light, almost casual. I thought you forgot about

me.

The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them.

I hated how small and desperate I sounded.

Aaron gave me a sheepish smile, placing his hands on my shoulders.

I am having the time of my life, Sia. Sandra is gorgeous, laughs at all my silly jokes and is just fucking perfect. Everyone is instantly jealous of me when they see her with me wherever I go.

Aaron began narrating his newest adventure and every word felt like a needle’s prick that dug further into flesh.

IseeI managed.

He spun us both around like we were toddlers and was jumping with joy, telling me details I’d really want to burn from my mind.

We were going to fly to this exotic location but then settled on this fancy place because she was too excited. You know what I mean, right?

I nodded, fighting to act composed.

And she is even more amazing in bed. I thinkI got a girlfriend.

My heart sunk further. She had risen from a mere crush to a girlfriend already while I stupidly kept waiting for him to return to me.

Ohthat’s great to hear.I forced the words out of my mouth.

And then a voice came from behind him, smooth and perfectly timed

Aaronl, I’m feeling lonely without you.

The door behind Aaron was open now, and Sandra stood there wearing a silk robe that hung loosely around her body, tied just enough to stay in place, her hair slightly messy.

Her gaze lingered on Aaron, her lips curving into a slow, knowing smile.

What’s taking you so long?she pouted.

I leaned back from him just a little and glanced back at Sandra who stuck her forefinger out, beckoning him to come to her like some fucking puppy.

She gave me one casual look as if to say see, how he will come running to me

And like an idiot, I took the bait, trying to keep his attention on me.

Behind him, Sandra let out a soft yawn, the sound exaggerated enough to be deliberate,

Aaron, she murmured, her voice dipping into something softer, more intimate, are you coming or no

She pushed her leg outside the door, revealing the thigh high slit and smiling coyly at him.

Aaron ran a hand through his hair, looking visibly uncomfortable now.

Sienna, you should head home,he said after a moment, his voice gentler, almost careful. I’ll meet you 1 We’ll talk properly then.

I nodded once, because reacting any more than that would only make this worse.

Sure,I said, the word coming out steadier than I felt. I wouldn’t want to interrupt.”

I turned to leave before my composure slipped completely.
