We reached the main hall and I gave myself some time to regulate my breathing and rethink the conversation I just had with Alpha Asher.

Aaron was already distracted with the arrival of Sandra who was coming down the stairs in a different dress. She was wearing a green floral dress with a sapphire necklace and studs to match along with several different accessories that were no doubt made of diamonds.

Woah, you truly look invincibleAaron smiled and she climbed down the last stair to kiss him.

Oh, take it slow. Don’t ruin my lipstick babeShe giggled, giving me a side eye as Aaron kissed her like he was chewing her lips.

Ready?she said, to Aaron after adjusting her dress.

Ready,he said, and put his hand briefly at her back, and looked over his shoulder at me. You okay?

Perfect,I said, with a tight smile that Sandra assumed was for totally different reasons.

We went out through the front door into the night, and I walked behind them down the steps to the car.

I was in my own world as I reached for the door handle but then Sandra quickly grabbed it first and almost shoved me to the side.

You can sit at the back,She said without looking at me.

Fine by me. I settled in the backseat, looking at my phone instead of Aaron and Sandra in front of me, acting so in love.

My thumbs went to my inbox and checked the last messages Connor had sent me. I hadn’t replied to him and now I wondered if I should.

His father wanted me away from him because I had risked damaging their pack’s reputation. And then Connor was being photographed with another girl so I began wondering if his father had sent him purposefully to separate us.

So much had happened in the span of a few days and my head was spinning.

I looked out the window, my feelings a cocktail of confusion and misery.

In front of me, Sandra was being very touchy, feely with Aaron, leaving no chance to lean over to him, blush and entice him with coded words that even a dumb person would realize meant she was hinting towards sex after the date.

1 thoroughly missed Jane and Olivia and wished they were around. And I would be lying if some part of me wasn’t missing Connor, But now I had to stay away from him, somehow ensure he would be miffed with me, even hate me so that my parents won’t hang their heads in shame,

The alternative to it was announcing to the entire world that it was Connor in those pictures with me but I doubted it would change anything because the girl was always supposed to be pure and free of all blames men could get away with anything.

Connor’s texts came in while Sandra was retouching her makeup in the passenger seat and Aaron was pulling out of the Ashford estate.

Connor: Are you okay? You’ve gone quiet again.

I read it and simply locked my phone instead of replying to him.

Sandra reached over and turned the music up, vibing to it and clicking a dozen pics of herself and Aaron.

My phone buzzed again.

Connor: You better not run from me tonight.

I stared at that for longer than I should have, then put the phone face down on the seat beside me.

I really had to come up with a good excuse soon but my mind wasn’t cooperating.

Aaron finally pulled up outside a huge banquet hall that looked like it had swallowed a city block. Dazzling lights shone across the even bigger front yard of the hall that was decorated with trees, fountains and cute little shrubs with even more fairy lights.

It looked like a fairytale mansion straight out of a storybook.

I let myself be momentarily distracted by its grandeur as a valet appeared before Aaron had fully stopped the

car.

Sandra let out a sound that was somewhere between a gasp and a squeal, already reaching for the door, and linked her arm through Aaron’s the moment she was out.

Babe, this is so beautifulShe chirped excitedly.

Not more than you, darling,Aaron replied.

I followed them across the forecourt feeling like a third wheel, looking at my phone every now and then.

To give myself something to do, I took a picture of myself and the huge backdrop of the banquet hall and sent it to Jane.

Jane’s reply came faster than I could blink.

Jane: OMG, where are you? Most importantly, who is with you? Is it Connor?

It was too loud all around and I wouldn’t be able to summarize everything in a text so I simply replied.

Me: No, just a blind date Aaron brought me to meet

That did not go down well because my phone was immediately ringing.
