He obviously didn’t buy it and a low chuckle rumbled in his belly and through the phone, making my chest feel warm and fuzzy even though I hadn’t even seen him yet.
I had no idea why we were playing this game of cat and mouse or why I was even trying to convince him otherwise.
Josh reappeared with two glasses and looked at the two already on the table. “Is your friend here by any
chance?”
“No, the server just set them at the wrong table,” I said, getting up. “We can take the next one.”
I pulled up the chair to the adjacent table as Josh deposited our glasses.
“Orange juice for the lady. I wasn’t sure if you were up for hard drinks yet or not”
“Thanks” I mumbled and reached for it.
Before my lips could touch the glass it was knocked out of my hands.
The server from earlier, materialized out of nowhere. He was apologizing profusely, but the glass had already slipped from my hands and spilled across the table and a fair amount had splashed across my dress.
“Oh fuck” Josh got up and looked around for tissues.
“Its fine” I mumbled, grabbing the tissues he handed me.
“I think you should head to the bathroom and get cleaned. Come on, I know where it is”
I looked around for any signs of Connor but found none as Josh led me through a maze of people until we were outside the bathroom door.
“I’ll wait here. Call me if you need anything”
“Sorry, for the mess….” I said sheepishly but he laughed it off.
“Happens. I have spilled my fair share of drinks. Go on”
I smiled at him and went inside the bathroom that was empty. The lights flickered on and I turned the tap on, my eyes looking at myself in the mirror. I looked wet, slightly pink–stained, but my mascara was miraculously
intact.
The door opened behind me as I gathered water on my face and splashed it on my face.
“This is the ladies bath…” I started, as I straightened to see a tall man walk in through the door wearing a mask that covered the upper half of his face.

It was dark with a gold edge, and underneath it was the jaw I could have identified in my sleep, the mouth I’d been trying not to think about for the past three days.
Connor.
He leaned against the wall and looked at me, and even through the mask I could see exactly how his eyes were moving, raking up and down my body.
The water trickled down my face and I didn’t bother wiping it as I whirled around, my hands gripping the edge of the basin as I stared at him.
Those eyes behind the mask were on fire and I think I heard him suck in a breath as his gaze fell on the slit that exposed my leg.
He took his time feasting on the sight of me, slow and deliberate and not even slightly apologetic about it.
“You look,” he said, his voice sounding like sin wrapped in silk, “criminally beautiful in that dress.”
“Get out of the women’s bathroom,” I leveled my eyes at him.
“Will you not even ask me how my journey was or if I slept properly?”
“Connor.” My voice was mostly steady. “Leave.”
“To answer that, I didn’t sleep well because I spent all my night imagining kissing you until you were breathless, desperate to feel your soft skin under me…hating that I was thousands of kilometers away when all I wanted to do was bend you over and…”
“Shut up!” I said, my voice sounding like a croak but my body was betraying me because I could feel wetness pooling down there.
He took a sniff and almost growled low in his throat.
“I did all that was possible to complete the deal and run back home so that I could do what my body and wolf was dying for and here you are….talking to another guy and telling me to fuck off.”
I shivered as he took a step closer, the scent of him making my mouth water.
“I can’t wait to take this dress off you…to spread you…,” he continued, still with that same even, conversational tone that made it worse somehow.
“I said leave me the hell alone!”
“And go where?” He stopped in front of me, not quite touching me yet but just leaving enough space for me to reach forward and grab him if I wanted to.
And Goddess help me I really, really wanted to
“Leave you with Josh, who…” he pulled out his phone and held it toward me….put something in your drink twenty minutes ago.”

Chapter 89
I looked at the screen, my eyes going wide as it showed Josh truly caught in the act.
“The server who knocked the drink over,” Connor said. “I asked him to.”

I looked up at him, at the way his jaw was covered with light stubble that wasn’t there when he left me soaked and yet wet for him back at the resort.
I gripped the edge of the basin even more firmly to not let my hands do what they wanted, aka pull him close and tear his clothes off.
“Why are you doing this?” he asked, some edge of frustration seeping in. “Why are you pulling away from me?”
“I’m not
“You haven’t replied to a single message of mine,” he said. “You lied about going to sleep and are instead at a party with a man Aaron selected for you” he stopped. “What happened while I was gone?”
“Nothing happened.”
“Sienna.”
“I told you I lost track of my goal… I don’t want casual flings or meaningless sex anymore,” I said. “Aaron….I want Aaron”
His expression didn’t change but something behind it did. “That’s a lie.”
“Sleeping with you was a mistake,” I said. “I was confused. I got carried away but not anymore”
“You’re lying to my face,” he said, without an ounce of doubt.
“I’m not lying”
“Your hands are shaking,” he pointed out and I immediately stilled them.
“Something happened while I was in London, didn’t it? He held my gaze and I could feel the heat of it despite the mask. “Tell me what it is.”
“I already told you. Now, if you will let me, I have a date waiting for me” I said.
