Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Sienna
Connor grabbed me by the wrist and I saw his eyes flare with a dangerous glint.
“Who is it?”
He asked, looking me in the eye.
I fucking didn’t know. I didn’t even have somebody waiting to meet me tonight. I just wanted to shut him up and ended up blurting out whatever came out of my mouth.
“None of your business” I gritted my teeth, struggling to get my arm out of his hold but his grip was quite firm.
He ran a hand through his dark, messy hair that fell in front of his eyes, hooding them a bit.
“Look, don’t befriend any and every man your father asks you to. Not everybody will be nice to you.”
I cocked an eyebrow at him. “You mean not everybody is an asshole like you. For once, we agree.”
Behind us, Sandra moaned so loudly, I thought the entire diner would have heard her lustful screams.
I quickly looked away from Connor, staring at the floor or at the stupid vase on the left side, just anywhere other than his face where he could clearly tell how it was affecting me.
A small moment of silence passed when neither of us spoke and I desperately hoped he would keep talking, keep me distracted enough from whatever was going on behind those doors.
Because if I walked away right now, if I let myself feel anything except anger, I would cry and Connor was the last person on earth I wanted to see me cry.
“Let me go!” I said after standing there stupidly for a while, failing to free my arm from his hold.
After a second, he let go and instead held the knife I had brought along in front of me.
I reached forward to take it but he pulled his hand back right when my fingers would have brushed his, raising his arm in the air and putting the knife well beyond my reach.
“What are you doing?” I hissed.
“That’s mine. For now, I will return it to you if you win the bet.”
“Bet? What bet?” I stared at him suspiciously.
“I give you a week to prove that I read you wrong, that you don’t love Aaron, and that you will willingly marry just any other guy your dad asks you to.”
Was be out of his mind?

Chapter 9
“What makes you think I need to prove anything at all to you?”
That annoying smirk returned.
CC
“Your galloping heart for starters, Speckles. It could power the sun if it were to ever fail based on how worke up you get when caught with a lie, among other things.”
He said smugly, still watching me.
I folded my hands on my chest, willing my heart to beat steadier.
“Don’t you have your alpha duties to perform? Go meet whatever girl your dad found for you instead of wasting both our times.”
A wicked grin appeared on his face at that.
“At last, you speak something useful. I was going to make the offer straightaway but since you are so annoyingly stubborn about not wanting Aaron, how about this? You meet this alpha of yours tonight, and make out with him.”
“What?”
“You kissed me, it should be easy for you to make out with random people if you truly don’t have anybody in your heart.”
“This is beyond stupid. I am supposed to find a match, not a hookup”
I was appalled at how casual he sounded with everything.
“Yeah, so find one you truly want to settle down with if you don’t want to make out. Show Aaron how you can ignore him like he forgot you.”
I had opened my mouth to protest when he dramatically added, “Unless, you know how.”
That got my attention.
I folded my hands on my chest, doing my best expression of being mildly interested.
“What do you mean?”
Connor swirled his glass once before chugging it down and placing it back on the desk with a thump
“You know how competitive Aaron has been. He always goes after what I have, be it my video games or my rank. You could make him forget about Sandra or any other girl, the second he sees you with the one guy he would never imagine.”
My mouth fell open.
“Are you proposing that I date you?”
“When you put it like that, it sounds weird. No, Speckles, as much as I love to taunt you. I wouldn’t want

eternal suffering for myself either.”
I didn’t want it either but why did it hurt to hear him say that out loud?
“So what do you exactly want?” I asked, unable to hide my curiosity.
55 wuch 59
“For starters, prove that I was wrong about you. Wouldn’t it make your day even brighter to have put me down for once in your life?”
He knew how I would absolutely love that.
“And?” I probed on.
“And if you win, if you prove to me that you only look at Aaron with brotherly affection, I will never show you my face again.”
A lifetime free from Connor and a chance to prove him wrong?
It would be better than any Christmas present. But the deal sounded too good to be true.
“And if I lose?”
His eyes lit up at that. “Then I will help you make Aaron realize what an idiot he is by marrying you.”
What?
The way my face paled must have been clearly visible to Connor because he shrugged.
“As much as I love to see you suffer, I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to be chained to you.”
That line had no business hurting so much.
“Then what exactly are you proposing?”
“You either accept your love for Aaron and we enter a deal right away or you fail and do that either way…..on my conditions.”
“I don’t love Aaron….” I began but he continued as if I had never spoken.
“You know how our father, Alpha Asher, is big on traditions and customs. So unfortunately, he will keep sending me to random girls to pick from as a Luna until I settle down, which I have no intention of. I’ll pick you as my fake girlfriend, tell him I need to give this relationship a year just to stop bothering me with the random marriage talk and you get to make Aaron jealous by making him see what he lost everyday when you stand beside me as my girlfriend. We both hate each other so there is no question of feelings geuing involved either.”
I blinked, trying to process his absurd idea.
