The Yakuza’s Mute Bride novel Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Chapter 56

“Are you not going to greet me, Tadashi?”

Her voice sliced through the quiet like a jeweled dagger-polished, confident, dripping with entitlement,

I almost glare angrily at her and I could see Tadashi stiffened beside me, every muscle in his body tightening with instant irritation, the kind he did not bother to hide.

He slowly turned his head, expression carved from cold stone.

“Sasha Kuznetsova,” he said, voice controlled but hard. “What business brings you here?”

Off course, he know her… I thought in annoyance.

I watch as she stepped inside the mansion with the arrogance of someone stepping onto a runway. Golden hair cascading, red stilettos striking the marble floor like hammers, a fitted dress hugging every deliberate curve.

She is beautiful, well.. more than that, but she screaming dangerous and I know Tadashi could see it too.

Is this how he likes his woman once? I thought, still annoyed.

And then without warning – she leaned forward and pressed a light kiss against his lips.

It was quick. It was shallow. But it was intentionally provocative.

Tadashi jerked back slightly, eyes flashing with annoyance.

Yukito inhaled sharply. Ota stiffened like a soldier preparing for war. Even the guards flinched.

But me?

I simply watched.

A single kiss from a past lover could not threaten a man whose entire being had been wrapped around me for days. I had felt his desperation, his devotion, his fury when I was hurt. I had seen the way he collapsed into me when I awakened.

A kiss from another woman did not change any of that.

“To say thank you, of course,” Sasha purred, trailing her gaze deliberately over my figure as if assessing a lesser creature. “My father heard how you eliminated the Watanabe clan from London. They were a thorn in our business. So naturally.. he sends his gratitude.”

Her smile widened with predatory satisfaction.

Tadashi did not smile.

“You are finished here,” he said coldly. “Leave.”

Her smirk faltered for the briefest moment a hairline crack in her confidence – but she lifted her chin and maintained her arrogant posture.

I sat in my wheelchair, posture straight, chin lifted in calm dignity. I did not shrink away. I did not look down. I did not feel

threatened.

So what if she had history with him?

So what if she had once been in his bed?

So what if she thought she knew him?

History is not the present and Tadashi is with me now.

He turned to me then, guilt flickering in his eyes but I smiled softly composed, secure.

“All done? Why did you not remain in the room and allow me to come to you?” I asked him, ignore the woman.

He scoffed lightly – not dismissing me, but covering the tenderness that always surfaced when I spoke.

Before he could respond, Sasha cut in again, her voice dripping with false sweetness.

“Awwww… how adorable. I never imagined Tadashi Masayoshi – the terrifying demon of the underworld – falling in love with a little barbie doll.”

Yukito’s hands tightened on the wheelchair handles, visibly tense. Ota’s jaw clenched. Even Ai, who lingered near the hall, narrowed her eyes.

But I remained still.

Her insult slid off me like water.

Well… I had lived a lifetime being underestimated – by my father, by Katrina, by London society – and this was nothing new. In fact, her attempt to belittle me only revealed her insecurity.

Tadashi turned to her again, his voice a low threat. “That is not gratitude, Sasha.”

But she only stepped closer, her expression full of wicked nostalgia.

“Oh, Tadashi,” she whispered, leaning in with shameless intimacy, “you used to enjoy my sharp tongue. And especially my screaming your name.” She tagged her lower lip with her teeth. “Why is everything different now?”

Her words hung in the air like a spark thrown into a pool of oil.

Yukito visibly suppressed a groan of annoyance. Ota muttered something very unflattering in Russian.

And me?

I remained silent – but not shaken. Not jealous. Not threatened.

Because I know everyone has a past. I do, so does he.

What matters is where he stands now.

And I know Tadashi was standing beside me.

I lifted my chin slightly, meeting Sasha’s gaze with calm, unspoken defiance. Her flirtation, her old memories, her arrogance

none of it touched me. If she wanted a reaction, she was not going to get one. She could parade every seductive memory she had, and it still would not change the truth:

Tadashi did not pull away from me when I touched him. He pulled away from her.

Yukito gently tightened his grip on the wheelchair, sensing the rising danger, and spoke quickly.

“Tadashi-sama, you should finish your business here. Miss Hunter needs rest. I will take her back to her room.”

Tadashi immediately moved forward, worry spiking through his features. “No, wait-”

But Sasha lifted her hand gracefully, cutting him off.

“Do you not wish to know,Tadashi…” she said softly, “where Reiko Yamasaki is hiding?”

The room froze.

Ota’s eyes widened. Yukito’s jaw dropped. The guards exchanged looks. Even the air felt different.

Sasha’s lips curved into a slow, victorious smile.

“There it is,” she said. “The look I remember. The look you only get when something truly matters.”

She slid her eyes toward me, her expression dripping with smugness.

“You see, little doll, there are parts of Tadashi’s world you will never understand.”

I met her gaze evenly.

My voice was soft but firm as I answered inside my mind: ‘I understand him better than you ever did.

And judging by the way Tadashi’s body angled instinctively toward me away from her she saw it too.

Her smile faltered just slightly.

Enough to tell me something important: Sasha Kuznetsova was dangerous, intelligent and she had power.

But I know Sasha Kuznetsova was also threatened by me.

Because Tadashi’s love for me was not a weakness.

It was a declaration.

And Sasha had just realized she was no longer the center of his world – I was.
