The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 234

"You found it?!"

Diego rushed forward first, reaching out before hesitantly pulling his hand back, terrified to touch it. Tears streamed down his face as he let out a sound caught between a laugh and a sob. "The White Microbe... you really found it."

Professor Harrison dropped to one knee and took the tube from Sloane's grip. He handled it with excruciating care, as if receiving a fragile holy relic.

He held it up to the light for a long time, his lips quivering, entirely robbed of speech.

Josh held his breath, his gaze locked intensely onto the small vial in the Professor's hands.

Even Cassandra leaned in curiously, her dark eyes wide with amazement. "Is that really The White Microbe? The cure for cancer?"

Wyatt grabbed the back of her hair, gently pulling her away. "Back up, kid. Don't knock the vial over!"

Sloane unhooked her oxygen tank. Ignoring her soaking wet suit, she stepped toward Professor Harrison and pulled a folded map from her pocket. It was the same one he had given her before the dive, only now it bore a distinct red dot.

"Professor, I marked the coordinates. South latitude, West longitude... it's right here!"

Her voice trembled with excitement, her eyes shining like polished obsidian freshly washed by the rain.

"There's a massive rock formation here... cough, cough... it's completely covered in the mycelium... cough..." Sloane choked on the freezing wind, coughing a few times before continuing.

"I harvested it directly from the source. It's only a few ounces, cough... but it should be enough to start the research."

"Oh, right," she added, suddenly turning to Garrison and grabbing his hand.

"Garrison, look at this! Tell me if it matches the strain in your lab!"
