Warm blood seeped out from beneath him, painting a jagged, crimson map across the pristine white ice.
His hands were still clutched tightly around the two vials of Epinephrine, all ten fingers securely interwoven. The glass hadn't shattered. His headlamp remained on, tilted to the side, casting its beam over the coagulating pool of blood and his frozen, expressionless face.
His eyes remained open, staring blankly at that distant sliver of light...

Further away, Wyatt Young dragged himself out of the freezing water. Soaked to the bone, his teeth chattered violently in the bitter cold.
Just then, the sharp crack of a gunshot echoed in the distance!
Wyatt jolted as if he'd been struck by lightning, his entire body going rigid.
Cassandra Jenson hoisted herself out of the water next, sprawling out beside him. Both of them immediately extinguished their headlamps, exchanging a loaded glance in the suffocating darkness.
"That came from the outpost."
"Let's move."
Wyatt unholstered his pistol. Thankfully, battered as his weapon was, it was at least waterproof.
Cassandra hefted the submachine gun she had managed to salvage from the depths.
Moving in tandem, they quietly slipped onto the shoreline and tracked the direction of the gunshot, eventually reaching UN Outpost 7.
Instead of approaching the main entrance, they hugged the exterior walls and flanked around to the rear of the facility.
Their footsteps were agonizingly light, the crunch of shattered ice beneath their boots practically non-existent.
Peeking around the corner of the building, Wyatt caught sight of something—and his body instantly froze.
A man lay face-down on the ice, surrounded by a dark pool of blood that gleamed a sickening, dark crimson under the stray beam of a headlamp...
He recognized the man instantly. It was Diego Solano!
