The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 240

"Who... who are you?"

With the cold, hollow muzzle of a gun pressed against his back, Diego Solano's voice trembled uncontrollably.

"Ugh, you talk too damn much. I said put the thing down."

Arlo Vance casually lifted his foot and delivered a vicious kick to the back of Diego's knees. Diego collapsed to the ice with a heavy thud.

His heart pounded against his ribs, and his ears rang violently. It didn't take a genius to figure it out—this man was definitely from Knox!

He was the one who murdered Coach Jensen, blew up UN Outpost 7, and... the one who just detonated the ice, sending them all plunging into the freezing water. It had to be this crew!

"Okay, okay, I'm putting it down..."

Diego obediently lifted the vial of medicine, holding it where Arlo could see. His hands shook so badly that the glass caught the beam of his headlamp, swaying like a pair of shattered stars.

"Please... don't shoot."

Arlo stared at him, his gaze shifting from the medicine to the back of Diego's head, and then back to the vial.

"Hurry the hell up," he snapped, a thread of impatience bleeding into his voice.

Truth be told, he had no intention of killing this harmless coward. His daughter's surgery was already scheduled, and this was supposed to be his final mission.

He was done killing for David Lancaster.

Diego swallowed hard, his throat feeling like sandpaper. "Could... could you take a step back?" His voice was as quiet as a mouse. "I'm scared... the gun might go off..."

Arlo narrowed his eyes. He stared at Diego for two solid seconds before actually taking a step back.

His boots crunched loudly against the ice.

Diego caught the movement in his peripheral vision. A single step back put Arlo roughly five feet away. The gun was still in his right hand, but it was lowered by his side, no longer aimed.

Diego bent over, sinking to his knees as his body lowered, bringing the medicine closer to the frozen ground.
