The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 268

Josh traced his thumb over every single face in the photograph with heartbreaking devotion.

He eventually looked up, fixing his dark, hollow eyes on Vivienne.

“I want to take them home.”

His voice had aged a decade. The bright, youthful defiance was completely gone.

Vivienne nodded, her tone subdued.

“The Professor and Diego are being prepped. I'll assign a team to assist with the transport.”

“As for Sloane...”

She left the sentence hanging, shifting her gaze past Josh to land squarely on Garrison.

Josh followed her line of sight.

In an instant, his fragile composure completely shattered.

“What the hell does that mean?” Josh's voice spiked, every syllable laced with venom. “They're divorced! He has nothing to do with her anymore! He has absolutely no right to take her body!”

Garrison stood rooted to the spot. Wyatt, still holding his arm, felt the doctor's muscles turn to solid granite.

“I want to see her.” Josh stepped forward, his fists clenching so hard his knuckles popped. “I need to see her one last time. I'm taking her home!”

Garrison watched him, as unreadable as a slab of marble.

After enduring the past few days together, he was well aware of Josh's feelings for Sloane. For a brief second, he genuinely felt a pang of pity for the younger man.

But he couldn't speak the truth.

Both logically and emotionally, he couldn't allow a single soul to learn of Sloane's true condition. The secret hidden behind those blast doors was enough to level Endurance Station, end Vivienne's career, and ruthlessly destroy Sloane's only minuscule chance at survival.
