The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 303

"Back off."

The two words, dipped in pure venom, slammed violently into Quinn's chest.

Because she had fully surrendered her weight, expecting him to catch her, Garrison's sudden withdrawal obliterated her balance. Her body lurched backward uncontrollably, and she tumbled straight down the short flight of stairs.

Thud, thud, thud.

She battered against the wooden steps. Her elbows and knees scraped painfully over the sharp edges, her spine slammed into the landing, and with a final, agonizing crack, she hit the bottom floor in a pathetic heap.

Blinding pain radiated through her bones. The physical agony, mixed with the toxic haze of alcohol and soul-crushing humiliation, caused her eyes to sting. Huge tears spilled uncontrollably down her face.

The intoxication, paired with her devastating embarrassment and sharp pain, completely annihilated her remaining pride. She didn't even try to get up. Collapsed on the freezing tile, her shoulders shook violently. Soft, pitiful sobs broke the silence of the living room, making her look utterly victimized.

This exact moment was witnessed by Rosemary and Garrison's father, who had just walked back into the room.

Rosemary gasped, rushing forward to pull Quinn into her arms. Seeing the younger woman's red eyes, pale face, and the angry scrapes on her skin, Rosemary shot a furious glare at her son. "Garrison, this is crossing the line!" she yelled, her voice laced with heavy condemnation.

His father's expression darkened into a fierce scowl. "Your mother is right, Garrison," he barked, his tone thick with reprimand. "Quinn is family. Even if she had a few too many and threw a tantrum, you do not treat her like this! She's out of her mind with drink, but what's your excuse? To shove her away so callously and watch her fall down the stairs—it's downright monstrous."

In a heartbeat, all the blame was aggressively pinned on Garrison.
