The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 321

He didn't remember. He truly didn't remember!

He used to hate her smile, thinking it was just a performance to please him. But now, how desperately he wished to see her open her eyes just one more time, to see her smile just once more...

He traced his fingers along her brow bone down to her cheekbones. There used to be a thin layer of baby fat there, making her cheeks look like ripe red cherries. Since when had she become so painfully thin, her features so sharp and prominent?

He stopped when his fingertips touched her lips. Her lips were cold and hard, like frozen rose petals that would shatter at the slightest touch. He didn't dare press down, merely resting his fingers gently against her lips as if afraid to wake her.

Five years... She had stayed here quietly for five whole years.

At that thought, a suffocating wave of despair surged from the depths of Garrison's heart, nearly swallowing him whole.

"Sloane, it's so cold, isn't it..."

He bent down, reached out, and gently wrapped his arms around her... She was so light—lighter than he remembered, lighter than when he had scooped her up from the ice five years ago.

He held her against his chest through the protective suit, letting her head rest against him. Her hair brushed past his jaw, and the ice crystals dripped onto his collar one by one. Her body was so freezing that it threatened to break his heart, yet through the heavy suit, not a single trace of Garrison's warmth could reach her.

"It's still cold, isn't it," he pulled her tighter, lowering his head until his chin rested on the crown of her head. "Sloane, it's still so cold, isn't it..." He held her as if clinging to a block of ice that would never melt. "Is that why you refuse to wake up?"

"You still refuse to forgive me, don't you?"

"You still don't want to see me... you still can't forget the pain I put you through, can you? I was wrong... Sloane... I was wrong..."

"I miss you, I miss you so much..."
