Archie seemed to understand. His struggles weakened, but the tears kept streaming down his face.
"Damn it, why is it his wife instead of Dr. Foster?"
After binding Sloane's hands tightly to the pillar, the three men in black gathered together, lowering their voices.
"Yeah, the boss said if that guy came personally, we'd just take him out. But now it's a woman. What do we do?" The man with the gun spat on the ground and looked over at Silas "Scar" Vance.
Scar stared at the frail woman and the five-year-old boy tied up securely. He stayed silent for a moment before speaking.
"Keep an eye on them. I'm going to call the boss and ask."
Barely a minute later, Scar returned, a cruel smirk twisting his features.
"The boss spoke," he said, looking at Sloane without the slightest intention of hiding the truth. "Get rid of the woman and the kid. As long as we have the item, that's all that matters."
The man with the gun nodded and raised his hand.
"Do it."
The gunman walked toward Sloane, aiming the muzzle right at her forehead. At the same time, the thug holding Archie suddenly pulled a knife from his waist and approached the boy, the sharp blade glinting coldly under the lights.
"No!"
In that split second, Sloane felt all the blood rush from her extremities. Her ears rang violently.
Archie's face flashed before her eyes—from his wrinkled little face when he was born, to his toothless grin when he first called her Mommy, to him throwing himself at her legs in the mall, crying, "Mommy is bad, I don't want Mommy!"
Archie... That was her baby. He was a piece of her very soul!
If she couldn't protect Archie, then they would just have to... die together!
The next moment, a loud bang echoed through the room!
