Chapter 186 Find the Prime Bug
Chapter 186 Find the Prime Bug
Whitney didn’t dare to leave the secret chamber. If she stepped out and those bugs followed her, the neighbors would be at risk. And if these bugs started spreading outside, eventually, it would turn into chaos.
Xavier was completely out of his mind. Nothing else was on his mind except getting revenge for Lila. Even if the whole world burned down, he wouldn’t care. He only cared about one thing: avenging Lila.
Whitney moved at lightning speed. She left the bugs far behind in no time. The secret chamber was sprawling, with plenty of space to get lost in.
When the bugs burst out of the breeding ground, they spread chaotically in every direction, like a wild frenzy.
Things got crazier as they neared the cages. The bugs zeroed in on the cages, drawn by the smell of blood, and charged straight for them. They blanketed every inch of the barriers around the cages, so thick that it was almost suffocating
The Pierce family’s distant relatives who were still conscious inside the cages were so terrified that they let out blood- curdling screams.
One of the cages was left open. Inside, there was a corpse that had long since turned into nothing but bones. Probably because the person locked inside had already died, Xavier opened the door, Collected the bugs from the cage, and left it
wide open.
Whitney pulled Ryan into the cage and slammed the glass door shut. These cages were made from special materials Xavier had them built specifically to imprison the Pierce family’s side branches and torment them with bugs.
Once the door was shut, the bugs couldn’t get in or out. In an instant, the glass door was swarming with bugs, like the other cages. The bugs covered the cage so completely that not a single ray of light could get through.
Whitney and Ryan finally had a brief moment to breathe. Whitney scanned the area, making sure there was no trace of bugs hiding beneath the cage floor. At least for now, they were safe.
Whitney let go of Ryan’s wrist, her eyes locked on the glass door swarming with bugs. She was about to walk toward it when Ryan grabbed her arm. “Where are you going?” he asked.
“We need to find a way to stop your uncle from going completely crazy,” Whitney said, turning to Ryan. With the light gone, they could only barely make out each other’s faces, standing so close together.
“We can’t stay here forever. If your uncle really wants us dead/even if the bugs can’t get in, we’ll be stuck here until we starve,” Whitney said.
And if Xavier really lost it and decided to unleash these bugs on the world, it’d be a total disaster. So, they couldn’t really stay locked up in here forever. They had to hurry and find a way to clear out these bugs.
Whitney racked her brain, trying to recall anything she’d seen about bugs in her mentor’s notes. From what she remembered, her mentor absolutely couldn’t stand bugs.
When he took her and the four other students under his wing, he taught them only medical skills and made sure they never got involved in anything related to bugs.
It was only by sneaking a peek at her mentor’s notes that Whitney realized he’d actually done some research on bugs himself. But her mentor’s notes had almost nothing about bugs.
She was so worried about getting caught that she only glanced at them before moving on. The only thing she remembered was that a prime bug, also known as the bug queen, usually controlled the other bugs.
With Xavier losing his mind and breeding so many bugs, he must be using a prime bug to control them. Like the bug inside Ryan, since Xavier had the prime bug at his disposal, he could decide Ryan’s fate at any moment.
‘That’s it, Whitney thought. ‘The prime bug. So many bugs swarmed out, but not a single one went after Xavier. There must be a prime bug controlling them. We need to find those prime bugs.’
Once the prime bug died, thousands upon thousands of bugs, packed so tightly they looked like a living carpet, would all die instantly too.
Whitney’s eyes suddenly lit up. “That’s it! Let’s find the prime bug. Once it’s dead, these bugs won’t be able to hurt us anymore,” she said.
from the bugs would be enough to make him
“And if the prime bug dies, Xavier, who’s been using his own blood and flesh to nurture it, will suffer a nasty backlash!” That way, Whitney wouldn’t have to lift a finger & Successfully unlocked! suffer big time.
“The prime bug?” Ryan thought back to how Xavier had squeezed that glass bottle a little
Chapter 186 Find the Prime Bug
Right then, it felt like a massive force was squeezing the life out of his heart, like it was about to explode. In that instant, felt the shadow of death looming over him.
So the bug in that glass bottle is the prime bug, the one controlling the bug inside me, he realized. If I control the prime bug, I control all the bugs. That’s why Whitney wanted to snatch it from Xavier.”
Ryan slowly placed his hand over his chest. ‘I can still feel that suffocating pain from earlier, like it’s not completely gone yet, he thought.
“How do we find it?” Ryan asked, totally clueless about bugs.
Whitney explained, “The prime bug is easy to spot. It stands out from the regular bugs, with a distinct size and appearance. And it always stays within 30 feet of its host.”
‘The host… That’s Xavier.’ Ryan got it right away. He glanced at the glass door crawling with bugs, then yanked Whitney into his arms. Anger flashed across his face as he shouted, “Xavier, do you really have to corner me like this?”
