3- Fuck You, My Queen!

Arabella’s POV: 1

I pressed my palm against my neck. It still throbbed where his canines had pierced the skin, but right now, that wasn’t even my biggest problem.

I had been planning to run tonight. And somehow, the man I was planning to run from had just made sure I couldn’t. He signed the papers without another word and walked out without a backward glance.

What the hell had just happened? The room erupted the moment he was gone.

“Goddess! He marked her!”

“How is that possible?”

“She was supposed to go there as a slave!”

I didn’t stay to hear the rest. By the time I stepped outside the office, Maya was already rushing toward me.

“Bella?” Her arms went around me, but mine stayed at my sides. I couldn’t

seem to make them move.

Behind her, Vanessa was shouting at Vikki. “How could he mark her, Mom? She was supposed to be a slave! And now she’s our queen?”

Queen?

Maya pulled back with a confused frown, and that was when her gaze fell on the mark on my neck. “Goddess…” Whatever she wanted to say seemed to die on her lips.

“Take me to my room, Maya,” I whispered. “Please.”

By midnight, Maya and I were sitting beside each other on my bed, staring at my empty knapsack. The mark had ruined everything. Even without money, I could have still escaped. But with his mark, there was no way out. Not even Vanessa could take my place if she had a sudden change of heart.

The mark would never allow me to run unless I rejected the king and he accepted my rejection.

Maya blamed herself. She had spent most of the evening doing exactly that until her eyes were swollen from crying.

I wished I could console my friend. All this time, she had been my rock. While living in this hell, she had been a breath of fresh air in my life.

We laughed together, we cried together, and now…

Now it was our last night together.

I squeezed my friend’s hand lightly. “It’s okay, Maya.” I tried to smile. “You get out of here. Make a life for yourself. No need to write to me or contact me. You might get caught.”

Maya turned toward me and hugged me tightly. “Arabella! I’ll miss you,” She cried.

I pursed my lips but couldn’t stop the tears from running down my face. “I’ll miss you too, my friend.”

We were so busy crying that when the door burst open, we both jerked up in surprise.

Vanessa stood in the doorway with bloodshot eyes. “You! You knew.”

I blinked. “Knew what?”

“That he would mark you!” She marched into the room. “That’s why you barely protested. He was here for me, Arabella. Me. And he marked you!”

For a moment, even Maya looked too confused to answer, then she stepped forward. “Miss Vanessa, Arabella only did what you asked her to…”
