Chapter 119 Truth

Kaia took the paternity test report, still confused.

She could read just fine, of course.

Children from rich families started learning at an early age, so even at the age of four or five, she could read almost anything she came across.

However, terms like biological parent, paternity index, and probability of match blurred together in the report before her until they stopped making sense.

She could read every word. She just didn’t understand them when they were put together.

“What does this mean?” she asked quietly. “Dad?”

Kaia wanted someone to explain it to her, but Thomas didn’t say anything.

“I can explain,” Lawrence said politely, a smile on his face that looked strangely twisted to Kaia.

Kaia’s vision started going dark.

Every instinct was screaming at her.

Don’t listen to him.

Just leave.

Don’t let him say anything.

But her feet felt rooted to the ground. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t move. She stared blankly at Lawrence.

Lawrence’s words were like knives, slicing through her last bit of dignity. “You don’t belong here at all. You’re just a fake. Thomas brought home when you were only one or two, just to keep himself from being lonely.”

Every word landed like poison.

“You’ve stolen someone else’s place for so long. Did you really start believing you were the real daughter or sister here?”

In an instant, Kaia’s whole world seemed to collapse.

All her father’s love, this family, her identity, and everything else she had taken for granted were suddenly falling apart.

Kaia looked up, her eyes betraying the panic she felt, as she searched for the one person she depended on

the most.

“Dad.”

Kaia’s voice shook, and her eyes turned red.

However, Thomas didn’t answer her.

Her eyes darted around before suddenly meeting Lawrence’s malicious gaze once again.

All of a sudden, she thought of Maya, the girl she had never liked.

She had amber eyes, too, just like Lawrence.

Thinking about it, Kaia realized that Maya had an uncanny resemblance to Lawrence.

She turned around and grabbed her father’s sleeve, as if it were a lifeline. She clung to it, desperately hoping he would deny it. “I’m your real daughter, right? Dad?”

Her face was tilted up toward him, and tears were already pooling in her eyes.

Thomas looked down at her.

Her small face was filled with fear and desperation. Her reddened eyes were brimming with tears.

Thomas considered continuing the lie.

After all, Kaia had always been easy to fool. She would believe anything he said.

If a lie would make her feel better, Thomas would be alright with that.

However, Lawrence had no intention of allowing that to happen.

“Can’t you figure it out? Are you really that stupid?” His voice was eerily calm, like still water. “Can you think for once? Why do you think Thomas asked you to collect Maya’s DNA? What do you think he did with it?”

Kaia froze.

She remembered that day when her father had asked her to get Maya’s hair.

She remembered the sealed bag, the strange look on her father’s face when he took it, and how casually he agreed to build her a new amusement park.

All the tiny details that she hadn’t taken notice of seemed to rush back all at once.

“I want to see Maya,” Kaia murmured as tears rolled down her face. She didn’t know why she wanted to see Maya either.

What am I going to do? Beg her not to take Dad away from me? Would she even agree?

Maybe she will? After all, she has her own family now.

As Maya’s name left her lips, Kaia turned to run off.

Almost immediately, a cold blade was pressed against her throat.

Lawrence had a cold glint in his eyes. It looked like he really wanted to drive the knife right into her.

His grip on the knife tightened before someone immediately yanked him away.

The knife slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor. Lawrence stepped back, scoffing as he looked at the hypocritical man before him.
