Chapter 135 Girls Are Unpredictable

Do girls really change that fast?

He didn’t know many girls.

The only one he could think of was Annie, and she was also very unpredictable.

One second, she would be screaming at her phone over some celebrity, acting like her life meant nothing if she couldn’t marry him.

The next second, the moment she saw Toby walk in, her face would switch into a soft, sweet smile, acting like he was the most important person in her world.

He would smile politely back then, but inside, he had already decided something. Annie would do great in the entertainment industry playing a crazy woman.

No acting needed at all.

He didn’t want to waste time on such a pointless question. Toby’s long fingers picked up a small hat from the side. His tone went back to normal. “You have a brother? Don’t tell me you met him at an orphanage.”

People who grew up together in an orphanage sometimes stayed in touch if they were close as kids. That was a reasonable guess.

Maya stayed quiet for a moment.

She watched as Toby held the hat above her head, measuring the angle. The side of his face looked soft under the light.

For some reason, she almost wanted to laugh.

“He really is my little brother,” she said.

“I don’t believe it.” Toby gently placed the small hat on her head and adjusted it slightly. Then he stepped back to look at her.

“There’s no way you could have a real younger brother.”

There was no sarcasm in his voice. Only a simple doubt.

And he wasn’t the only one. Even Alfred didn’t really believe it.

To them, it made more sense that the boy was someone she met at an orphanage.

Maya blinked. She looked at the careless Toby and suddenly realized something.

Toby had never looked up Lawrence’s background.

If he had, he wouldn’t be saying he didn’t believe her.

What surprised her even more was that he really hadn’t checked.

Chapter 135 Girls Are Unpredictable

A self-centered rich guy like him actually respected other people’s privacy?

But even if he had checked, it wouldn’t have mattered. She was the one who brought it up first, anyway.

“You don’t have to believe me,” Maya said. She tilted her head up obediently as he finished adjusting her look. The small black hat on her head had a dark red ribbon around it, sitting slightly crooked.

She added silently. You’ll believe it once you meet him anyway.

After all the fuss, the final look was finally decided, and it was already very late.

Maya had tried several times to rush things.

But Toby stayed calm and steady the whole time.

He had people change both kids from head to toe.

Maya ended up trying on three different dresses before they settled on the final one. Alfred also had to try on four or five different suits.

When it came to Toby himself, he was quick. He wore a dark red shirt with the sleeves casually rolled up. His wrist bone looked pale and sharp under the light. A black coat hung loosely over his arm as he watched the two kids get dressed again and again with interest.

By the time they finished and rushed to the place, the party was already halfway through.

Maya lifted the hem of her dress and stepped softly onto the carpet laid out by the hosts. Thinking about what she was about to do made her nervous. But there was also a strange excitement she couldn’t quite explain.

“Toby, I might cause you some trouble later. Will you mind?” she said, glancing at Toby.

Toby looked at her. “Like what?”

“Like maybe someone might come to you later and ask you to cover some damages,” Maya said.

Toby paused. “Huh?”

At first, he looked confused. Then he said flatly, “Why would they even dare ask me for compensation?”

It sounded like a classic rich-kid attitude, but for him, it was just the truth.

No matter what Maya did, once things got out of hand, the host of this party would be the one coming over in person to apologize to Toby.

They were the hosts. Their first priority would be how to calm down whatever mess his sister caused, not to demand money from him.

Ask me for compensation?

Were they insane?

“Oh. I see,” Maya said.

So that meant even if I caused trouble, no one would dare to make us pay?

That was kind of amazing.

Also, kind of immoral.
