Chapter 87 Wrong Target

The woman turned around, looking at the men who had suddenly appeared, her expression perfectly puzzled. “Do you live around here too?”

“Of course not.”

One of the men smiled.

“Our boss wants to see you. Well, you two don’t really matter; the important one is that little girl.” He pointed at Maya, then looked Wendy up and down like he was pricing livestock. “Our boss would like to invite you over for tea. Ma’am, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll get in the car with us.”

“I’m not going.”

The moment Wendy refused, all five men’s expressions changed.

“Not very cooperative, huh?”

“Our boss is so ridiculous for calling this many people for just one woman. There’s not even enough money to split between us. I could’ve handled this alone,” someone muttered,

“This one’s pretty good-looking. Could probably sell for a decent price.”

In this world, underground organizations were rampant, and shady deals happened all the time. Beautiful women could easily end up as commodities.

“Your husband must be pretty trusting, letting you come out alone to pick up the kids.”

Standing quietly in the corner, Wendy listened to their conversation as if they weren’t even trying to hide it. She almost laughed. It had been a long time since she’d heard something this amusing.

After all, it was usually others lying on the ground in front of her, begging for mercy. No one had ever stood around so casually discussing her like this.

Still…

Wendy was a little confused.

Why would anyone be foolish enough to target her children?

“What does your boss want with my daughter?” Wendy smiled faintly, then took a small step back, putting

on an act.

“Want to know?” One of the men stepped closer, his tone suggestive. “Spend some time with me, and I’ll tell you.”

Seeing her expression turn cold, he smirked. “What’s wrong? Not happy? Too bad. Give up now. Even if you scream for help, no one’s coming. No one ever comes here.”

The alley had been abandoned for who knew how long.

Chapter 6 Wrong Target

Unlucky for her to walk in here.

The woman clutched the two children in her arms. She lowered her head and bit her lip, her shoulders trembling as if she were terrified.

Her voice shook, as though grasping for one last bit of hope:

“No one else will come here, right?”

Held tightly in her mother’s arms, Maya blinked.

It felt like her mom was about to burst out laughing.

“That’s right.” The man sounded almost excited. “You could scream your lungs out, and no one would come save you.”

Wendy immediately let go of the children, her shoulders trembling slightly-this time from laughter.

Her soft, gentle face was half-hidden in the shadows of the alley entrance. She slowly lifted her head, her voice quiet and sincere, filled with gratitude.

“Well then… thank you so much.”

No need to deal with the bodies herself.

Perfect.

That realization made her smile even more genuinely.

“Wait.”

Something was off. This woman wasn’t scared.

Instead, she seemed… excited?

As Wendy stepped forward with a smile, the men instantly grew wary.

She walked toward them at an unhurried pace, her tone polite, almost courteous. “Who is your employer?”

Her soft voice echoed through the deathly quiet alley, yet it sent a chill down the backs of all five men, as if they were the ones being surrounded.

No one answered. Wendy’s patience ran out.

They instinctively took two steps back, and then everything went black.

A series of sickening cracks shattered the silence…

A massive force slammed into their chests, sending the three men in front flying backward. Their ribs snapped on impact.

They didn’t even have time to scream. The pain stole their voices, leaving only strangled, animal-like sounds in the alley.
