Chapter 97 Candor
Maya actually said he looked like a bum, and even told him to go fight in some beggar gang showdown?
This kid had such a sharp tongue.
The world had actually gone to hell. All the bad people turned tiny, put on innocent little faces, and specialized in tricking kind, honest guys like him.
She saw right through him.
She was just teasing him on purpose.
Who told her to stop in her tracks on the way home?

“I wasn’t teasing you on purpose.” Maya was scared he might lose control over himself, so she immediately lowered her head and wiped her tears, slipping into fake crying like a seasoned veteran. “I’m just a normal guy, why are u doing this to me?”
“Boohoo…
“I’m telling my brother you guys are bullying me!”
His lips twitched. Then he burst out laughing after trying his best holding it in.
Why was this kid talking so funnily?
Her crying started sounding like laughs.
Its sound was like a train pulling out of the station.
“Hahahaha, your crying is hilarious.”
The little girl’s eyes were round, and tears were rolling down one after another.
Her tears fell like raindrops-devoid of emotion, a mere display of technique.
“What? This is clearly real emotion.” Maya’s tears slowed down. She raised her head defiantly, not convinced. A teardrop still clung to her lashes, quivering with each blink.
She was really good at crying.
Maya’s honed her acting skills in the orphanage.
Playing the victim worked every single time.
“But your genuine emotion is seriously hilarious.” He poked Maya’s cheek with a smug little grin.
The child’s face was soft and gentle; a poke left a little dent, feeling pleasantly squishy.
He kinda wanted to rub it again.
But he held himself back.

Chapter 97 Candor
Wouldn’t be fun anymore if he scared her off.
He got straight to the point. “Oh, yeah. Can you buy me something to eat?”
Maya froze. Tears still flowing, and she looked a little confused.
“Are you hungry?”
That was a bit of a sudden shift in topic.
She thought he was some kind of twisted psychopath, but it turned out he was just hungry?
“I’ve already spent all my allowance for this month.” But in reality, the card Toby gave her had a crazy amount on it, and Alfred often shared his own allowance too.
But why on earth would she treat a stranger who stopped her on the street and threatened her to dinner?
She opened her backpack. “I do have some bread though!”
When George looked into her bag and saw it full of bread, his expression turned a little disappointed.
But he was too hungry to be picky, he still grabbed one and started eating.
He’d been too busy these past few days.
Dealing with a group of killers was like dealing with a pack of mad dogs,
It wore him down to the bones.
George had just walked by this school initially, planning to drop in and tease his little brother for fun.
He forgot which grade he was in, nor could he recall what he looked like at all.
He didn’t have a very good memory, and he also wasn’t good with faces.
He’d stopped this kid for two reasons. One, he wanted to ask about Toby. Two, she just looked weirdly familiar.
“Don’t you have any money?” Maya had only called him a bum earlier to tease him.
But right now? This guy didn’t seem all that different from a beggar.
He didn’t even have money at all. He was so broke he had to get food from a kid.
“I have money, but when I was on the run, I lost my credit cards and cash.” Even he sounded a little confused, as if he couldn’t remember.
That one-hundred-million bounty was way too tempting.
One after another, the assassins were hunting him down.
His uncle was a real jerk too, he refused to help him.
