Chapter 155 The Wrong Girl Caught

A dozen monitors were arranged in neat rows. Each one showing a different part of the school, together they formed a full picture of everything happening on campus.

“Our targets are mainly students from the international program.

The man who spoke had a gentle, almost friendly face. He looked to be in his early 30s, with thin gold- rimmed glasses that gave him a calm, educated air. Nothing about him suggested danger. No one would ever link him to something like kidnapping.

His codename was Horus.

He was the one who planned the whole operation.

They had done their homework. Every target’s background had been checked in detail. Among all the students, one stood out the most-the daughter of the richest man.

Horus kept his head down, flipping through the files in his hands.

“Garrick,” he said casually, “the girl named Kaia-did you get her?”

Garrick Hardy shrugged.

“No,” he replied. “There were too many people. A little boy grabbed her and took off running.”

Horus finally paused. “A little boy?”

“Yeah. His family owns some kind of tech company,” Garrick said, sounding faintly irritated. “Kid was ridiculously fast. One second they were here, the next they were gone.”

Horus frowned.

“Then check the cameras,” he said. “This place is covered in them. No one disappears that easily.”

He turned his head slightly. “Luna, I’m counting on you.”

Luna was the only woman in the room. She handled all their technical work-surveillance, systems, anything involving electronics.

She gave a brief nod without looking up.

“Got it.”

Horus flipped to another page, then paused as something crossed his mind.

“By the way,” he added, “the guy who went after that girl earlier, why isn’t he back

yet?”

“Now that you mention it,” He scratched his head. “Yeah, he’s been gone a while.

“You think he ran into trouble?” Garrick asked.

Horus dismissed the ides almost instantly. “No way. Just a kid, not some kind of superhero.”

Garrick thought it over and gave a slow nod.

“Then he probably handled it and wandered off somewhere,” he said. “You know how unreliable he is.

Luna rose and walked over at an easy pace, stopping in front of her. She looked down at the girl’s tear- streaked face, studying her for a moment.

“Hey, kid,” she said softly, her tone almost kind. “Your dad is Thomas Jackson, right?”

Kaia lifted her head, eyes blurred with tears. She sniffed and gave a small, shaky nod, “Mm…

“Good,” Luna said with a faint smile. “That makes things simple.”

She reached out and brushed lightly along the girl’s cheek, then her chin, and slowly down to her neck.

“What if I cut off your hand,” Luna went on in that same calm, even voice, “and send it to your dad? How much do you think he’d pay?”

Kaia went completely still.

Tears clung to her lashes, but the crying stopped all at once, like something inside her had snapped.

Cut off my hand?

Send it to daddy?

The words didn’t fully make sense to her, yet the meaning hit anyway.

Fear crashed over her so hard she started hiccuping, hey breath breaking apart until she couldn’t even cry

anymore.

They wouldn’t go this far in the beginning for most kid. Usually, they waited until the child refused to cooperate before turning cruel. But this case was different. This was the daughter of a very rich man.

If they didn’t push hard enough, her father might try to stall for time or dig for information, and they couldn’t risk that.

Luna watched the terror spread across the girl’s face. Oddly enough, her smile only softened.

Kaia seemed to snap back to herself.

“I’m not…” she stammered, her voice trembling. “I’m not-

“Not what?” Luna asked, still smiling,

“I’m not his daughter!”

Kaia’s thoughts spun in fear.

Maya runs fast. She should be okay, right?

She didn’t want Maya to get caught, but she didn’t want to lose her hand too.

Finished

Tears spilling again, she rushed out the words, “She’s the one. She’s the real daughter. My dad… my dad has been looking for her for a long time.”
