“Maybe we should just stop looking for them… Even if we lose, it’s not like anything terrible will happen.” Some of the children were already starting to back out. After all, taking shifts searching for people day and night was exhausting.

“Hey, do you really believe they’ll just let us leave? The people here spent a fortune training us. They’re not doing all this just to watch us play some childish game of tag, are they?”

“But that adult really did say that. He can’t seriously be shameless enough to lie to kids, can he?”

They argued for quite a while without reaching any conclusion.

Just as they were hesitating over whether to give up, a strange man appeared out of nowhere.

A gentle smile sat on his face. He carried a bulging backpack and set it on the ground.

“Do you want to catch those two kids?”

The children all turned to look at him.

“There are only three days left. If you keep hesitating, you’ll lose for sure.”

“Can you help us catch them?” a girl asked as she stepped forward. “We’ve almost caught those two several times already, but they’re faster than us. They get away every time.”

“I can’t help you catch them myself, but I can give you something.”

As he spoke, he pulled out 10 sharp knives and then took out five tranquilizer guns. “As long as they lose the ability to move, won’t they be at your mercy?”

The children’s eyes immediately lit up.

One boy grabbed a tranquilizer gun and eagerly said, “Awesome! Let’s do it right now. If we move fast enough, we can catch them. I refuse to believe they’re faster than a gun.”

With one child taking the lead, the others instinctively gripped the knives and tranquilizer guns in their hands and quickly stood up.

In Maya’s opinion, avoiding direct confrontation and surviving until the end was the safest path to victory.

The others moved slowly enough that using the locations displayed on the phones to stay out of sight was actually pretty easy.

Late at night, a cold wind swept through the forest. Alfred gently woke her up.

Maya glanced at the tracker on her phone and noticed numerous green dots moving closer and

closer.

“Let’s go.” Alfred spoke first.

Maya nodded.

The two of them ran toward the area with the fewest green dots. They had occasionally run into children waiting in ambush before, but those kids hadn’t possessed any real weapons. Even if they were strong, the sticks they carried had little actual threat.

Thanks to their agility and speed, Maya and Alfred had always escaped without much trouble.

But this time was different.

“Stop right there.”

A girl stepped out from behind a tree. Something was clutched in her hand as she raised it.

“You’ve lost. Come with us. I have a tranquilizer gun.”

Maya immediately froze.

A tranquilizer gun?

She exchanged a glance with Alfred.

The girl didn’t waste any time and immediately pulled the trigger.

The tranquilizer dart shot out toward Alfred.

To be fair, her aim was pretty terrible. The dart slammed into the tree beside him.

After missing her shot, the girl immediately shouted, “They’re here! Hurry up!”

A boy charged out from behind another tree, gripping a knife. Gritting his teeth, he swung it at Maya.

Hearing the movement, Maya spun around and abruptly stopped. Her body tightened like a drawn bowstring. Her foot twisted against the ground, kicking up a faint cloud of dust as she swept her leg out.

The boy was sent flying. His entire body slammed into the ground on his back and slid several

feet.

The knife flew from his hand. Curled up on the ground, all he could do was groan in pain.

Maya looked at the knife lying nearby, her expression darkening slightly. “Are you trying to kill someone?”

Alfred bent down and picked up the fallen knife.

The blade gleamed brightly.

It had been sharpened.

With a casual twist, the knife traced an arc through his palm before he threw it. The blade sliced past the wrist of the girl holding the tranquilizer gun.

A heavy thud echoed through the woods.

The girl immediately dropped the gun and stiffly turned her head.

The knife had embedded itself directly into the tree trunk.

A moment of silence followed.

Maya froze as well. Staring at the knife stuck in the tree, she covered her mouth and drew in a small breath of shock.

“How did you do that?”
