This Time, I’ll Be the Villain’s Favorite Daughter

Chapter 279 Round Two in the Snow

Raymond bowed his head and walked out, resigned to his fate.

He didn’t mind the cold all that much.

But not minding the cold and actually planning to build a snowman out in it were two entirely different things.

By the time Raymond made it out to the yard, Maya had already rolled a small snowball across the ground.

He stood in the doorway with his hands shoved in his pockets, the very picture of misery. Maya, you and your brother just barely made it out of a lifeordeath situation. A kid your age should be resting up right now.

Can’t you sit still for even a minute?

Maya didn’t even look up. Nope.

Hurry up and help me, Dad.”

She wanted it finished before the sun went down.

Raymond sighed, bent down, and scooped up a handful of snow.

And then

Smack!

A clump of snow landed dead center on Maya’s forehead.

Maya’s head shot up, snowflakes drifting down from her hair, a few of them sliding past her collar and onto her neck.

She shivered from the cold and turned around to glare at Raymond. What did you throw that at me for?

What’s so fun about building a snowman, Maya? You could throw one at me too and work on your aim while you’re at it.” Raymond brushed the snow off his hands, sounding proud. I never miss at this game.”

Just as Maya packed the snowball tight in her hand and got ready to fire back, a figure suddenly appeared at the corner of her eye.

At some point Wendy had come outside too, and she was standing right behind Raymond, the

look on her face as icy as the snow swirling through the air.

Raymond didn’t even have time to react.

Quicker than he could blink, his wife landed a vicious roundhouse kick.

What did you throw that at her for? Don’t you know how easily kids catch cold out in the snow?

Wendy was furious enough to blow her top.

Raymond went flying into the snow with a heavy thud, sprawled out pathetically in the thick drift, snow spraying up high all around him.

He lay facedown on the ground with a mouthful of snow wedged between his lips.

Cold straight to the bone.

Maya was so shocked she froze.

Then she burst out laughing with delight.

Mom, you’re amazing!she cheered.

Snowflakes clung to Raymond’s eyebrows and lashes, and he refused to let it go. I just got beaten up, and you’re this happy about it, Maya?

What an ungrateful brat!

His heart felt every bit as cold as the snow.

Grinning from ear to ear, Maya pressed the snowball in her hand right onto Raymond’s face. Don’t be mad, don’t be mad, Dad. I’m just washing your face for you.”

While she was goofing around, Raymond reached back and grabbed her by the collar.

He’d just sat up and was about to teach the little troublemaker a lesson when, the very next second, Wendy kicked him flat onto the ground again.

In round two, he spat out the mouthful of snow he’d swallowed and let his forehead drop to the ground with a kind of bleak resignation.

A grown man your age, picking on a little kid. She’s going to catch a cold.Wendy snatched Maya away and warned her sternly, Stop messing around.

Raymond pushed his upper body up out of the snow and shook the icy bits out of his hair. If you’re so worried about colds, then she should just stay inside.”

He really, truly did not want to play with the kids.

Tell you what.He played dead on the ground for a couple of seconds, then sat up and fished his phone out of his pocket. I’ll call your two brothers over to play with you.

Those two little punks used to argue constantly back when they were home.

An exasperated Wendy had booted them both out.

Toby resented George for being a useless deadweight who might as well drop dead so he’d stop wasting everyone’s resources.

George wasn’t thrilled about getting insulted out of nowhere either, so he’d get back at his younger brother whenever he got the chance.

The two of them spent all day at each other’s throats.

Now that the family’s two rowdiest little troublemakers were back home, he decided to call these two useful sons back too.

Raymond sighed. As the saying went, you never realize how few sons you’ve got until the moment you actually need one.

He could only hope that when the time came, his four sons would prove a little more useful.

Wendy finished making the hot chocolate and handed it to the two kids.

The rich, sweet smell drifted through the kitchen, the heater in the living room was running full blast, and a thin layer of condensation had settled over the windowpanes.
