As expected, Ernest stopped halfway through his move. He shrugged and smiled. “Oh. She’s really just a kid.”

“What exactly are you trying to do?” he snapped, glaring at Ernest. His tone had already turned unfriendly. “She really is my friend. She’s still in high school.”
“A high school student skipping class?” Ernest looked her up and down with amusement, as if he were judging her from above. “That doesn’t sound like something a good kid would do.”
Maya tilted her head. “Mister, why do you sound like such an old man?”
A good kid?
That was something older people said to younger kids.
The phrase made her skin crawl.
Ernest was not happy about this.
“You really have no manners. How old are
you?”
Maya lowered her head and played with a strand of hair beside her ear. “Fifteen.”
Unlike her friends, Maya wasn’t nervous at all. She wasn’t afraid of him, and she wasn’t worried about the situation.
Even if everyone here had guns, they were basically no threat to her.
In this comic-book world, having a gun didn’t automatically make you the winner.
Since the system had warned her, Maya decided to study Ernest carefully.
He was also one of the characters mentioned by the system, but unlike her classmates, who spent all day arguing, full of justice, and had zero real danger, Ernest was different.
Someone as morally gray as him could become a major wildcard.
“Fifteen isn’t that young,” Ernest said. “Want to visit our base?”
Maya looked up and met his eyes. “Sure.”

Ernest was definitely not someone to anderestimate.
He was testing her, and she had no reason to back down.
Lucy’s world collapsed. She froze for several seconds, then squatted dowe, grabbed her head, and screamed. “Oh my gosh!”
Chance punched the ground. “Why?!”
How had things escalated this fast? They’d exchanged only a few words, and now they were talking about visiting o
secret base.
Is Ernest out of his mind? Why would he invite Maya?
That is the main base. The real one. Most members aren’t even allowed into the area. The entrance is hidden, surrounded by traps and security systems, and we need three identity checks just to get in.
And he wanted to take an assassin there?
If Maya’s identity is exposed, would she even make it out alive?
Chance and Lucy looked like two people who had completely given up on life. One was crouching and clutching their head, while the other was kneeling and pounding the ground. The scene looked like some bizarre cult ritual.
Ernest ignored the two lunatics.
He led Maya toward the car.
Without hesitation, Maya climbed right in.
Ernest narrowed his eyes.
He couldn’t tell if this little assassin was truly foolish or simply confident she could walk out unharmed.
“Ernest, your hairstyle is pretty cool,” Maya said as soon as she got in.
His hair was dyed silver. Everyone in Maya’s family had brown hair. No one dyed it. Her grandfather was old-fashioned, and she and her brothers had grown up in that environment, so none of them dared experiment with their hair.
Ernest gave her a half-smile.
“You like it? I could take you to dye your hair too.”
Maya touched her hair. “Sure. I want to dye it green.”
