Chapter 307 One Idealist and One Young Killer
Even a feared assassm organization like Silent Archive didn’t use physical punishment on its members. Yet a legitimate company like the Imperial Order still did. Life really wasn’t dan
After three hours on the road, Chance and Lucy kept trying to talk Maya into getting out of the car and leaving
When they realized she wouldn’t change her mind, Lucy poked her forehead hard
“I need to tell you something Come closer”
Maya obediently leaned over.
Lucy nervously picked at her fingers. “Stay away from Ernest. After we report to our teacher, we’ll come find you.”
“Is he that scary?” Maya poked her arm.
Lucy shook her head. “I don’t know him that well. He’s like a ghost in our organization. But he has a lot of authority. Usually, our teacher only talks to him in private.
“Then he sounds like your teacher’s guard dog,” Maya said.
“Can we not call him that?” Chance said tiredly. “Our teacher is very mysterious. He’s only appeared in public a dozen times. In private, he only meets with Ernest. What Ernest says is basically the same as our director’s orders.”
He sounded like he was about to cry. “So please don’t mess with him, okay? I’m begging you.”
Chance looked miserable. Maya finally nodded.
After her friends left, she followed Ernest through countless twists and turns until they reached a massive private compound.
They were both organizations, but if Silent Archive looked like a normal company, then the Imperial Order’s base looked like a giant maze of tunnels.
“Do you like this place?”
Maya was looking around when Ernest, who was walking ahead, suddenly turned around with a smile.
“Silent Archive’s assassin. Everbloom.”
He thought the code name would shock her.
Instead, Maya paused and looked confused. “Were you talking to me?”
She sounded genuinely annoyed. “I actually don’t like that code name. My uncle came up with it.”

Was that the key here?
The key should be her identity being exposed, right?
મા
He had just revealed who she was, and he only reaction was that she didn’t like her code name?
Who cared whether she liked it or not?
“Aren’t you scared?” Ernest stopped walking. The cold hallway lights shone from behind him, stretching both of their shadows across the floor. “This is my territory. You could die here at any moment
Maya pretended not to understand and changed the subject.
“Ernest, are you still taking me to dye my hair? When are we going? Do you know how to dye hair?”
Ernest fell silent.
He didn’t know why, but hearing those words made his irritation shoot through the roof. A strange serise of frustration settled in his chest, and he couldn’t even explain it.
“So you admit it, right? You’re Everbloom.” He decisively dropped the hair-dye topic. His voice turned stern, like an adult scolding a kid who had gone down the wrong path. “You’re only fifteen. At your age, you should be in school, not working as an assassin for Silent Archive. Do you understand?”
Since Ernest had changed the subject, Maya quietly sighed in relief.
Then her face fell.
“But I don’t have a choice.”
She lowered her eyes. “My dad doesn’t have a job. George likes to gamble. Alfred dropped out of school when he was little. And my oldest brother is a doctor who keeps getting sued for malpractice. I really don’t have a choice…”
She blinked. “I’m the family’s only hope. I have to make money and keep studying. Otherwise, my mom won’t be able to hold her head up back in our remote town.”
Every word sounded completely sincere. A gambling brother. A useless father. A broken little girl.
The cold look on Ernest’s face slowly turned complicated.
He looked at the hardship written all over her face and couldn’t help sighing.
His expression softened, like an adult looking at a child who had lost her way. “That doesn’t make doing bad things okay.”
He looked at her. “Your real name is Maya, right?
“My parents used to work dangerous jobs in the Silent Archive too. They were part of that dark world a had done plenty of evil deeds. Later, they died.
