Chapter 339 Too Fast
“We’re already here. Stop dragging your feet, Edric.” George waved cheerfully at a nearby camera, then shoved Edric forward. “Let’s go see if Maya’s friend is dead yet.”
Edric stumbled a couple of steps and glanced toward where his siblings had disappeared.
In the end, he spread his hands, his refined features softening as he spoke calmly. “Well, nothing we can do.”
He paused, then added a perfectly reasonable excuse.
“Let’s call it cleaning up crime.”
Fini
He said it so naturally that it sounded like wiping out criminal organizations was just another routine family chore.
Lucy’s lips twitched. If anyone in the underworld heard that, they’d die all over again out of sheer spite.
That said, Maya’s brothers really were capable.
Except… the one next to her.
Lucy glanced at Toby without thinking and blurted out, “Looks like the only useless ones here are us.”
Toby kept his hands in his coat pockets, profile sharp in the night. “I have a gun. I’m not useless.”
“And,” he added after a beat, voice edged with mockery, “what makes you think you’re even on my level?”
Lucy said nothing.
Damn.
This whole family is toxic.
For two days, Chance had been locked in a windowless room, stretching out whatever solid intel he had just to buy time.
He spoke in fragments, kept things vague, forced them to verify everything themselves.

They weren’t stupid. After a few rounds, they caught on and escalated.
So he was beaten, then thrown into this empty room with no windows, no bed.
Chance leaned against the wall, every part of him aching. A thought kept creeping in.
He missed Lucy. And that idiot friend too.
He wondered if they’d made it out.
He tipped his head back, cold concrete pressing against his skull.
Law enforcement probably won’t go after assassins. Maya might be safe.
The last time he’d talked to that online friend, he’d joked about marrying her someday. He even said he’d show up at her door with two cartons of milk and meet her brothers properl
Finding a little humor in his suffering, he wondered whether he would ever get the chance t show up like that.
Alfred raised his suppressed gun and took out the cameras along the corridor.
The two of them slowed at the same time as they moved deeper inside.
Alfred slipped around a corner, gone in an instant.
Maya stayed put, scanning the space, eyes moving from ceiling to walls.
Standard undergrouse layout. The corridor was narrow, barely wide enough for two people side

The moment she finally saw someone, her eyes lit up. “Alfred!”
“Got it…” Alfred’s voice came low, almost like a sigh.

In the next instant, before the shooter’s brain could catch up, everything went dark for him, and he dropped where he stood.
Alfred appeared behind him, silent. He flipped the knife in his hand, blood still dripping, his expression calm. “He’s dead.”
