Chapter 345 For the Children
“Maya, I’m not going…”
The family was full of old-timers who loved giving speeches.
Finist
Whenever they got together, they could go on and on from “the glory of the Clarks” to “the responsibilities of your generation.”
Back when they first found out that a completely unexpected child had suddenly been added the Clark family tree, those old-timers had looked like they’d swallowed something rotten. They constantly made snide remarks and passive-aggressive comments.
Later, Edric and the others had gone back to Clark Residence several times.
After that, the old-timers never dared to make
2 Omments again.
“When are you two going back to school, Maya?” Edric paused, then put extra emphasis on his next words. “And you too, Alfred.”
“No,” Alfred said coldly. “It’s boring.”
In his eyes, the teachers were pigs, the students were pigs.
Only Maya wasn’t a pig.
He didn’t want to go back to the pigpen.
George could actually understand Alfred’s thinking. He covered his eyes and recalled his own school years.
Raymond had shipped him overseas at a young age to develop his independence.
“School really was boring. Back when I was studying abroad, every day felt the same. I wasn’t starving, but I wasn’t exactly living either.”
The main problem was that everyone was obsessed with teaching independence back then. His family had controlled his allowance so tightly that he only had enough money for food and rent. Not a dollar more.
Eventually, he started making money through criminal activities.
Then he realized that causing trouble was way more interesting than going to school.
“Exactly.” Maya scratched her head. “I don’t understand anything they teach anyway.”

Chapter 345 For the Children
Most of what happened in class went in one ear and out the other.
“You still have to learn it even if you don’t understand it.” Edric’s voice carried a kind of exhaustion he couldn’t hide. Every word reflected his frustration with these three chronically anti-school children.
At this rate, he genuinely couldn’t see a future for the Clarks.
Listening to the slightly ridiculous conversation between the four of them, Toby turned and glanced at the back seat.
Maya was leaning against Alfred’s shoulder, George was slumped against her other side, and th three of them were squeezed together like three cats who collectively hated school.
“Are you three planning to destroy this family someday?” Toby felt a headache coming on too. He couldn’t see the family’s future either.
Maya let out a scream. “You’re all so annoying!”
She pulled part of her jacket over her face. “I’ll go home with you guys. I’ll go to school tomorrow. Stop talking already. Please stop talking!”
The four of them finally fell silent at the same time.
The moment the car stopped, Maya hurriedly yanked open the door.
Clark Residence was brightly lit. Groups of servants moved back and forth carrying bouquets of lilies past her, leaving behind a faint cool fragrance. Everyone seemed to be busy preparing for the upcoming gathering.
The butler stood at the entrance with his hair perfectly combed and his suit impeccably tailored. His smile was polite and professional.
When he saw Maya jump out of the car, his gaze lingered on her head for five full seconds before his smile widened naturally.
“Got a new look? Very nice, Ms. Maya.”
Maya touched her fluffy green curls, and her mood instantly improved. “Thanks.”
Her brisk walk turned into a run as she rushed through the front hall.
“Mom!”
Her voice exploded through the doorway. She launched herself forward like a green cannonball and dove straight into Wendy’s arms.

Wendy caught her steadily without taking a single step back.
The hot coffee in her cup sloshed slightly, but not a single drop spilled.
ི་
One hand gently held the coffee cup while the other cradled the back of Maya’s head. Lookin down at the fluffy green head in her arms, she hesitated for two seconds before speaking soft “Sweetheart, why are you… green?”
Maya tilted her face up.
“I dyed it. Do you like it?”
Wendy looked at Maya’s upturned face.
The green curls. The fair skin. The bright sparkling eyes.
With the kind of motherly bias that could probably be measured in layers, Wendy nodded firmly. “Adorable.”
There simply wasn’t a cuter child anywhere in the world.
Raymond poked his head out. He had been drinking coffee, and when Maya came charging in he had just taken a sip. He quickly covered his mouth and swallowed.
“That’s definitely unique,” Raymond finally said after a long pause.
It was completely ridiculous.
He loved it.
“You used to look like a spiky chestnut,” Raymond said after giving her a thorough look. “Now you look more like a cabbage, sweetheart.”
He lowered his voice slightly, as though sharing a secret that only father and daughter could understand. “Honestly, it’s kind of cute too. You should go show Grandpa. I bet it’ll be the highlight of his day.”
Even now, Raymond still carried plenty of resentment toward the rest of the family.
But after all these years, with the children constantly visiting back and forth, even the most strained relationships had gradually softened with time.
In the end, Philbert had finally relented and stiffly said, “Do it for the children.”
Raymond had thought about it and realized that no matter how unhappy he was, he could only accept it.

For the children.
Apparently, even assassins couldn’t escape the power of that phrase.
That was why they still attended family gatherings from time to time.
Though it was mostly limited to major occasions like this.
When Raymond mentioned Philbert, Maya suddenly remembered her grandfather.

Chapter 348 Pointless Conflict
“Hey.”

Wendy had been happily binge-watching a TV show. She was curled up on the couch with he tablet in her arms. Her hair was loosely tied behind her head, with a few strands hanging besi her ears. She gave off a relaxed yet elegant feeling.
Hearing them argue about hair dye, she looked up. Then she immediately pulled Maya into
arms.
Maya’s nose bumped into Wendy’s shoulder, and she smelled a faint floral scent.
Wendy said matter-of-factly, “If Maya dyes her hair, then of course she should dye it the sam color as mine.”
Under the light, Wendy’s hair looked like a soft light brown. It gave people a warm and gentle feeling.
The four of them had been arguing fiercely. None of them expected Wendy to join the battle.
For a moment, Edric and George were both speechless.
Only Toby and Alfred continued insisting.
“Black,” Toby said stubbornly.
“Black,” Alfred echoed calmly.
Wendy glanced at them.
Her gaze was gentle. But both Toby and Alfred stiffened at the same time.
“Why black? Because both of your hair is black?”
“Yes.” To everyone’s surprise, Toby and Alfred admitted it without hesitation.
Then, in the next second…
Wendy mercilessly knocked both of them to the floor.
They weren’t hurt. But Wendy’s control over her strength was very precise. Even so, the two boys were left dizzy.
Toby lay on the floor blankly, staring at the chandelier above him.
Forget it…
The first lesson he had learned growing up was never to argue pointlessly with someone
