Chapter 344 Family Dinner Invitation

Ernest paused, as if carefully choosing his words, then smiled.

“I mean, your family’s pretty famous. Infamous, even.”

Infamous.

Maya kicked him again. Ernest didn’t even bother trying to dodge. It wasn’t like he could avoid it anyway.

“I saved you, didn’t I, Ernest? So why are you still making sarcastic comments?”

“I’m just telling the truth, aren’t I, my little savior?” he said weakly.

Maya hated that teasing tone of his more than anything. Expressionless, she lifted her leg and planted her foot on his face. “Ernest.”

She looked down at him from above. “I saved you, so from now on, you can be my dog.”

Ever since Chance had mocked her for being Silent Archive’s little lapdog, Maya had fully embraced the whole concept of being someone’s dog.

Lucy immediately raised her hand. “Maya, if it’s just being a dog, Chance can do it too!”

Her Chance would definitely be the best dog there was!

Chance said, “I really don’t think this is something we need to compete over.”

Toby had been standing near the doorway, fully intending not to participate in this social gathering. But when he saw Maya stepping on Ernest’s face, he frowned.

Finally unable to ignore what was happening, he strode over and pulled Maya back by the arm.

“Come here. What if he ends up enjoying it?” Toby’s gaze swept over Ernest on the floor, his expression filled with disgust, as though he were looking at something dirty.

“Who’s sick enough to enjoy getting stepped on?” Maya took a step back.

Silence followed. Toby released her arm and shoved both hands back into his coat pockets. “Where exactly did you learn this whole villain-who-finally-got-power act?”

Every other sentence out of her mouth was about making people become her dog.

She looked exactly like some evil little villain.

Alfred spoke the uncomfortable truth. “From you.”

Maya immediately glared at both of them.

“That’s different.” George put away the butterfly knife he had been twirling between his fingers. “When someone else gets power, they become annoying.”

His eyelashes curved as he spoke with complete seriousness. “But when Maya gets power, it’s adorable.”

George’s talent for saying the right thing was unmatched.

The corners of Maya’s mouth lifted immediately. She wrapped her arms around his and said, “George is still the best.”

Ernest slowly pushed himself into a sitting position on the floor.

A moment ago, Maya had been stepping on his face. After that, everyone had completely ignored him for an entire conversation.

Watching the way this family interacted, Ernest finally understood a little of the girl’s bizarre way of thinking. He coughed lightly twice, and the corner of his mouth curved upward.

“Alright.” Ernest’s voice was so low it seemed squeezed from the depths of his throat, carrying traces of blood and hoarseness. He smiled. “I’ll willingly be your dog, okay?”

Maya hugged George’s arm tighter and said expressionlessly, “Then if you ever betray me, I’ll…”

To her surprise, Ernest looked genuinely sincere. “I betrayed my own organization, but I’d never betray you, Maya. I may not have much morality, but I still have at least a basic sense of right and wrong.”

He hated the Imperial Order. He hated many underground organizations.

That came from everything unfortunate he had experienced in life. But he still liked good people.

“Whether you came for Chance or whether you just wanted to come beat me up.” Ernest’s voice had become so soft it was almost impossible to hear, “I’m grateful.”

Seeing how sincere he seemed, Maya still had her doubts.

Even so, she reached out and helped pull him to his feet.

“Then I’ll trust you this once.”

Their hands clasped briefly.

Without warning, Alfred stepped forward and smacked Ernest’s hand away.

Alfred’s eyes were dark. His sharp, cold features looked like they could cut someone. “Back off.”

“Go wash your hands when we get home. He’s dirty.” Toby pulled out a pack of disinfectant wipes he carried with him and started wiping her hands. His expression remained cold. “Don’t

around holding hands with people for no reason. It’s gross.”

He could tell at a glance that Ernest had the look of someone desperately trying to find something to cling to.
