Chapter 362 Two of a Kind
Punished
Sure, they knew martial arts, but those professional movements–that level of coordination–looked like something honed over hundreds of run–throughs together.
The two of them were close.
Both knew martial arts.
And both had been sent over by her own father.
So, their identity was obvious at a glance.
Iris thanked the heavens that the young lady had finally caught on “Yes. Which means we’re not your servants. Understood?”
“Oh. Then would you consider coming to work for me?”
Somalie blinked, clearly not taking that identity distinction to heart in the slightest.
She leaned in closer, her eyes sparkling, her tone earnest. “Come be my bodyguards. I’ll hire you–double the salary, three months of paid vacation a year, a year–end bonus, and your own private dressing room. Do you like pink? If not, other colors are fine too.”
“Not happening,” Maya said.
Unwilling to give up, Somalie tugged at their arms for a good while. “Just think about it a little more! My family’s pastry chef is a world–class chef!”
When none of her various bribery attempts panned out, the girl crossed her arms, turned her face to the car window, and sulked.
Somalie had been reluctant to come in the first place, and the delay on the road had cost them more time. By the time the car rolled through the estate gates, the sky had gone fully dark.
The gathering was being held at one of the family’s manor estates.
ľ
The main building was an Anglish–style manor, with two rows of Crepolian cypresses stretching out from the entrance. Warm light spilled out from inside, and from a distance it looked like a castle.
Somalie’s car had barely come to a stop before someone came forward to open the door.
The grand hall doors stood open, and the scent of champagne drifted out from the banquet room.
A second before she stepped out of the car, Somalie switched on a standard–issue social smile.
The curve of the girl’s lips was just right, and even her stride shortened noticeably from its usual length.
Holding up her skirt, she stepped slowly into the hall, nodding in acknowledgment to everyone who greeted her.

Finished
A few were clearly her family’s Aradune business partners. Somalie stepped forward and exchanged warm pleasantries with them Saplish, showing none of her usual willfulness.
Watching Somalie switch faces at light speed gave Maya a sudden flash of déjà vu.
Toby was like this when he socialized. Edxic smiled at outsiders the same way.
Even her uncle, when forced to put on a show, could instantly switch from gloomy creature to sunny, cheerful social mode.
….So instant face–switching really was a required course for trust fund kids.
Maya filed that away.
The banquet hall was even livelier than she’d imagined.
The long tables were draped with embroidered cloth, the dessert towers stacked five tiers high, and the champagne glass towers shimmered with bubbles under the lights.
On the central dance floor, people had already begun swaying to the string quartet’s performance.
Maya took a look around and discovered the most interesting phenomenon of the night: everyone present, young and old, man and woman, wore notably grave expressions.
Every time glasses clinked in a toast, the people holding them looked as devout as if they were praying, I hope I make it home alive tonight.
So heavy.
Why does her family’s banquet hall have the atmosphere of a memorial service?
“There are so many people here.” Iris had infiltrated social functions before, but the two could hardly be compared.
In those places, she hadn’t recognized anyone besides the target.
But this seemed to be a gathering of acquaintances.
That middle–aged man chatting with someone on the left–she’d seen him in the news while scrolling videos not long ago.
The young woman drinking champagne on the other side had been on the cover of a finance magazine just last month.
These living, breathing big shots standing together were nothing short of a walking wealth ranking.
Iris lowered her voice. “Imagine if our organization planned an attack here. Wouldn’t we be able to wipe them all out in one sweep?”
“…Let’s not.” Maya cut off her partner’s fantasy in time.
The people here were basically all the Clark family’s business partners, and not one of them was on the
