Chapter 410 Invitation
The invitation felt surprisingly heavy. The paper carried an embossed pattern, and its edges glearned with gold trim. It looked just like a ticket from an old ocean liner.
“A boarding pass?”
Maya’s curiosity lit up at once.
She eagerly held it up for a closer look.
“Mone accurately, it’s an invitation.” Alfred glanced at it before answering. “The design is pretty creative. It looks like the party has an ocean liner theme.”
Maya didn’t care whether it was an invitation or a boarding pass. She turned it over several times. Then she spun around in one smooth motion. The hem of her shirt fluttered gently as she moved.
She leaned forward and held the card out to Alfred.
A bright sparkle slowly filled her eyes. A smile spread across her face.
“Hey, mister.” She lowered her voice and copied the casual tone from an old movie. “If I had one extra boarding pass, would you sail away with me?”
Alfred froze.
He looked up at her. His answer came without a second of hesitation.
“If it’s with you, I’ll follow you for the rest of my life.”
Maya would’ve given that answer a perfect score.
Her playful mood only grew stronger. She bowed like a perfect gentleman. Her right hand rested behind her back. Her left hand held the card. The gesture looked remarkably convincing. She offered him her hand as though the next moment would carry them away to the very edge of the world.
Alfred played along.
He stood up. The two of them became completely absorbed in their little performance.
One prepared to turn around. The other prepared to follow. Together they looked like the final frozen frame of a movie.
Then the least romantic person in the world interrupted.
“You two really are partners in crime.”
His blunt words carried obvious displeasure.
“I assume both of you know that invitation actually belongs to me.”
Maya fell silent.

She still held the card out toward Affred. The room stayed quies for two long seconds.
Toby stood in the doorway. He looked like he’d just returned from a formal event. His white suit made his face seem bathed in pale moonlight. He was undeniably handsome. He was also unmistakably cold.
“It’s an invitation, not a boarding pass.”
He looked at their little performance with complete indifference.
Toby received countless invitations every single day.
Business organizations sent them. Government officials sent them. Even distant relatives he’d barely heard of sent them.
The butler sorted every invitation into neat stacks. They stayed on the tray near the front entrance until Toby had time to glance through them before feeding them into the shredder.
Most of them served no purpose.
Unfortunately, this one was different.
The host held tremendous influence. The invitation was for an exclusive private gathering aboard a luxury ship lasting three days and two nights. Toby had already received one while he was out.
The second copy had been delivered to the house in case the first one never reached him.
“Could you show a little awareness?” Maya frowned.
“Did you really have to interrupt us when we were taking this so seriously?”
“I say it’s a boarding pass, so it’s a boarding pass.” She held the card up in front of Toby and waved it stubbornly. She refused to surrender the last shred of dignity from her performance.
“Call it whatever you want. That invitation belongs to me.” Toby still sounded patient while speaking to Maya. The moment he looked at Alfred, every trace of patience disappeared. “With only that, you can’t take Alfred away. You also can’t get aboard the ship.”
Toby spoke with casual confidence. “But I happen to have one extra…”
He paused. Then he deliberately emphasized the words. “Boarding pass.”
He indulged her little performance by calling it a boarding pass.
He lifted his hand and casually waved the second invitation in front of her.
The movement perfectly mirrored what Maya had done moments ago.
His version carried unmistakable superiority. He stepped closer. His striking face stopped only inches away. The exhaustion in his eyes disappeared beneath quiet satisfaction. He looked like a cat that had just finished a successful hunt.
“You can only come with me.”
