Chapter 416 Big Sis

corners of his lips curved upward, burying his overwhelming emotions beneath a quiet smile.

“…You’re right.”

Then he called out, his voice light and quick, just like when he was little.

“Big Sis.”

Maya’s expression cracked.

She clearly hadn’t seen this coming; her eyes widened a fraction, her lips moved, and yet not a word came

out.

“Big Sis.” He mimicked the earnest tone of his boyhood, her reflection caught in his eyes.

“The truth is, I’ve wanted to say this for a long time. In my eyes, you’re the all-powerful one, the one and only.”

Little Edric had always looked up to her.

As he grew up, he met all kinds of people-clever, beautiful, dazzling-but none of them ever stood out like

she did.

Yet Maya, of all people, always felt she was worthless.

Edric sighed inwardly.

She really did love to sell herself short.

When, in his eyes, whether as a boy or a grown man, she had always been the one who shone.

Now it was Maya’s turn to instinctively bury her face in a pillow.

“It’s not really like that.”

She stammered it out, the delight all but written into her eyes.

Edric patted her head. “It is. Back then I was still trying to guess whether you were a sprite or a fairy.”

Maya was silent for a moment.

“I didn’t realize you were the type of kid who believed in fairy tales.” Maya’s eyes went wide.

How childish.

Edric neither confirmed nor denied it.

Truth be told, back then he’d also seriously wondered whether she might be some kind of female ghost or spirit.

But there was no need to tell Maya that part.

Chapter 416 Big St

When Maya and Edric came out of the guest room, the other two instinctively craned their necks

at were you two talking about?”

Toby asked without the slightest ceremony.

Maya said, “Not telling you.”

“I swear, all of you are keeping stuff from me,” Toby muttered, his tone dark and unreadable.

That caught Maya off guard; she hadn’t expected him to be so sharp.

A mischievous, slightly wicked grin touched her lips as she deliberately poured fuel on the fire. “That’s right -we’ve all got secrets from each other. You’re the only one who doesn’t know them.”

Toby said nothing.

Every word hit his most sensitive nerve.

Grinning, Maya rose onto her tiptoes, reached out, and mussed his hair without the least bit of mercy.

He didn’t dodge, letting her do it, and said coldly, “Maya-”

“Goodnight, Toby. I’m off to bed.”

Toby lunged to grab her, but his hand closed on empty air. Face dark with annoyance, he whirled around to face Alfred and Edric. “What the hell is going on between you guys?”

It couldn’t be that his sister had lost her mind and… started dating one of them, could it?

The moment the thought flashed through Toby’s head, a shudder ran down his spine. He could barely suppress the sudden urge to pull out a gun and blow both of them away on the spot.

Alfred and Edric traded a swift glance.

When it came to Maya’s secret, the two of them had been the first to learn the truth.

In that single, shared look, both brothers realized something simultaneously: the other guy knows, too.

Edric answered coolly, “Can’t tell you.”

“Toby,” Alfred offered kindly, “you can guess for yourself.”

Toby fell silent.

“What are you all hiding from me?” He flung aside the absurd notion of his sister dating one of them and worked hard to calm down.

Since when had Alfred and Edric been this in sync? The two of them looked positively in sync, reading each other’s minds.

An inexplicable pang of exclusion hit Toby like a cold splash of water.

Maya spent the following week recovering.

Alfred took the initiative to request a full week of medical leave for her, even running interference with their mother on her behalf.

By all rights, this week should have been a peaceful breather.

Except that whenever a child was on break, the ones who could least stand to see her idle were always the grown-ups of the house.

Philbert promptly drew up a schedule for her.

Flower arranging at 10 a.m., horseback riding at II a.m., golf at 3 p.m., music appreciation at 5 p.m., and in the evening she was to keep him company over a game of chess.

What a terrifying grandpa!!!
